We're heading into lower Manhattan on Columbus Day to celebrate a birthday. We'd like it to be fairly nice, but okay for a couple of kids. Tribeca, Battery Park City, Financial District all okay. Any ideas? Thanks!

The Odeon on W. Broadway. Fun for kids and adults (they'll even put food coloring in your ginger ale). |

Dim Sum at some Chinatown restaurant where I'm sure other people have specific suggestions. |

Cabana at the South Street Seaport. Great Nuevo Latino cuisine, good views and nice energy. http://cabananyc.citysearch.com/ |

I was going to say Odeon too. If its nice out, it also might be nice to SouthWest NY in the World Financial Center (the food is not especially great, but there is tons of outdoor seating and a beautiful view of the water, and you can walk around the wintergarden while you are there). Another fun choice is to go to a place in Little Italy. Da Nico on Mulberry Street has a beautiful garden in the back where you can sit on a nice day. |

We wanted to go to Bubby's, but we're 11 people and they said they won't take reservations. Birthday guy wants to know he has a reservation. This is for lunch, but since it's Columbus Day, we don't know how busy they will be. Anyone been to Landmarc? Looks schwanky, but they have a kids menu.

There's a cute, interesting, and very funky chrome diner/French bistro in the Village--Florent--that's most child friendly, has rather good food, and is reasonably priced. In addition, you can usually park on the street out in front in the evening and on weekends, since it's actually in the meat-packing district (off of West Street, just below 12th Street). It used to be the only restaurant on Gansevoort Street, though now Florent is part of a real hopping district. BTW, they're open close to 24/7. http://www.restaurantflorent.com/florentindex.html |
