A benefit for Slidell, Louisiana was held today at Burnet BBQ. It went from 2 - 9 PM. Not sure how many people, but I'm guessing 200+. They kept bringing out more and more food, all of it delicious. Chicken, beef, sausage, shrimp, paella, ribs, salad, etc. The owner brought platters around to each table, got special food for kids, and did a fantastic job.

I hope there were lots of people at the party who had never been there who will now return. I can't praise the owner and his crew enough.

My husband and I were craving Spanish food on the rainy Saturday night. We decided to go out and try Burnet BBQ. We were very disappointed. I guess because we're used to the great places in Newark and Harrison - but this really didn't measure up. The rice had no flavor at all. The ribs and chicken were only passable. My husbands "short ribs" were not short ribs but some kind of small bones with barely any meat. No seasoning, no flavor. We might give it another chance if someone will recommend what they really like there. The garlic shrimp looked unseasoned and watery, not buttery and colorful, when it went by. I was hoping it would be fabulous so we could have a local place to go.

This is not the Spanish/Portuguese food you have come to expect from Newark and Harrison. The name of the place would not lead me to believe it was Spanish/Portuguese anyway. I recently had a great meal in Newark if you'd like to try Brazilian. Boi Na Brasa. Adams Street.
