Anyone got any suggestions for a weekend getaway 2 -> 3 hrs from SO/Maplewood? Looking for a logde/cabin style accommodation, somewhere in the Catskills/Poconos maybe... similar to http://www.emersonplace.com/lodging/default.htm (unfortunately they're all booked out this Saturday night!) |

Don't know if I would call this similar, but it is very nice, is about 2 hours away and in the poconos. I would stay there myself, but my family's vacation home is about 15 minutes away on Lake Wallenpaupak, so it would seem redundant and silly. www.thesettlersinn.com |

Maybe Mohonk Mountain House - I doubt they have rooms available for this weekend, but you never know. http://www.mohonk.com/index_flash.cfm |

Simsbury Inn in Connecticut, about 15 minutes north of Hartford. Near the inn is a nice bike trail heading in several directions, and some light hiking paths going into the hills across from the inn. Some interesting (French and Italian) and reasonably-priced restaurants nearby as well. Best bet: hop an early morning Air Canada flight to Montreal or Quebec City. Especially at this time of year. |
