There is a great butcher on the corner of Liberty and Morris avenue. And what about the Polish butcher on SA? |

jeff, I never bought beef there, but I have happily bought pork and other cuts of meat at Lutz's Pork Store in Union. Why mention it? Because one day I saw a Maplewood restaurant owner in there and he said he buys his beef there...so I figured it must be pretty good...just havent gotten back there to try the beef. (I also then walked into Conca Dora Bakery a few doors down same time as him too...another really good spot.) |

Lutz's is pretty good, but I prefer the 'Union Pork Store' in Union, on the corner of Liberty and Morris Ave. It's a Polish operation with all around great stuff. Hands down best Kielbasy and all kinds of German style sausages. Their prime meats are really great, too. And surprisingly low priced. Only down side are the opening hours, closed on Sundays and Saturdays they close in late afternoon. |

Prisco's on SA just off the corner of Vauxhall has great steaks - it's a no frills italian deli but the family knows meat... nice fresh italian breads and mozzarella too.. we love their rib eye. |

Are you kidding??? Ice packed cooler and a trip to Wegmans. Terrific store to shop in too. Brigdewater, Manalapan and Woodbridge. Absolutely the most beautiful meat ever. Why would you go to a small time butcher where the meat might not move as fast as it does there. The big Kings in Short Hills is good quality too. You can pre-order any cut you want for whenever you want. Just cause it's a big grocery store, don't expect lower quality. |

You don't think a "small time butcher" is attuned enough to his/her business to know what moves? I've been well served by Lutz's with zero complaints regarding the quality of their product. |

Costco's meat is also very, very high quality. For that special butterflied legf of lamb or dry aged beef I typically go to the butcher at the Union Pork Store. I love Wegman's but won't schlep there as often for meat so I also use the big King's when I have a special steak cut that I want/need.

I wouldn't accept any food advice from anybody named 'msg' The meat at the Union Pork store moves really fast. And they keep their stock smaller then big supermarkets. Often enough they don't have the exact cut that I want, but they always have something similar and it's always great quality. BTW. Nothing against Wegmans, I love it, but I also like small specialty places. |
