...what kind of renovations are you talking about Susan?

Just a year or so ago, the previous owners spent several million dollars in renovations. The place has probably one of the most modern state of the art kitchens in the state. Everything in the place is almost brand new...

I thought "closed for renovations" was another way of saying closed until a new buyer takes over.

All I know is that we tried to go there last night, and the place was dark, with "Closed for Renovations" signs in the windows. Ended up with pizza instead of a steak.

I share CageyD's suspicions (unless they had water damage in the recent deluge), but hope they are wrong. I was hoping that someone here might know the story.

They are re-doing the inside, changing it up a little, and funishing the lower level.

I have seen the plans and met the new partner. They are taking out the large bar and building a new one in the front (village plaza/valley street side). There will be a new chef and a different menu.
The downstairs will have a different menu which will be a small plate/Tapas style. Their will be a seperate bar downstairs.
Expected opening is October 25th, 2005.

Good, they need a new chef. Regardless of what others have said I have been there twice and found it mediocre for the price point. I hope they improve...the more diverse dining, the better

Latest update is they will be open again towards the end of next week (10/28), but still not firm.
They will have a grand opening (or re-opening) in early November.

I just left Franco at Lot 15-the new construction is moving along-a beautiful new bar...I also met his new partner-great guy-they have really cool plans....they will re-open in early November-there will be a Noveau Beaujolais tasting on November 18th-not bottles-from barrels that will be tapped that night-these barrels are being air freighted in-they have some really great plans-too many to share here....but it is going to be a happening place!

It's nice that the businesses are noticing that we are not all the beer and slice of pizza types!

I much prefer matinis, cockails, appetizers and Noveau Beaujolais type places. I also love steak, ceasar salad, baked potato and scotch (hint, hint).

I have kids and we take them to the pub (or Chili's) when we eat out. Every other night out with the hubby is "date night" and I like a grown up atmosphere.

Sandra (bartender) makes a great dirty Belvedere martini at Lot 15.....they also have single malts-which is perfect with the air turning cooler....

Art Shamsky's "Doubles", many moons ago, on Queens Blvd., near Pastrami King. I preferred the latter venue, BTW.

Someone should tell them what "cellar" means before they spend all that money on a fancy sign.

I was going to make a snide comment about him being on the Mets as well (being a Yankee fan it is my obligation), but then I looked up when he was on the Mets - 1968 - 1971. Definitely not the point in the franchise that they were cellar dwellers.

BTW, Good luck to Giacomo, Franco and whoever their new partner is

Art Shamsky is one of the new partners along with a great guy named Patrick. Art Shamsky broke in with the Chicago White Sox I believe.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/shamsar01.shtml

Art broke in with the Cincinnati Reds and was traded to the Mets in the 1967 offseason. He shares the record for homeruns in consecutive at-bats (4 HR over two games, August 12-14, 1966).

We look forward to trying out the new place when it reopens!

Is the owner of Lot 15 totally out of this business now? If so, they must not have been doing well financially

I was just at The Village Cellar with Franco and Patrick (new partner). Franco and Giacomo are still partners in the restaurant. They have plenty of experience and a history of running successful restaurants....they are still going strong! There is going to be some great things such as "kids" night when kids will have a buffet to choose from while adults can dine on the regular menu-I saw the menu today-it looks incredible. I also met the new Chef. He is a really nice guy with a great background-This community really needs someplace like this.....tenative opening next Tuesday the 15th...

I went in there last Friday. I like the revamp. Took out the bar in the center and moved it to the front. Removed the drapes from the ceiling. It's very nice although the dining room looks enormous (when it's empty). Menu seems to be the same or perhaps a little more Italian.

I have an image... Local Power Lunchers at the Village Cellar... About a third of the the place occupied, all discretely listening to the table talk whirling around them... VP Bill Calabrese eating lunch there today, seated at a table for three in the center of the big room, folksily but relentlessly selling his lunchmates (a burly round-headed man and a younger woman) on some venture, project, or whatever... The image is flickering... I cannot say for sure who paid for Bill's lunch, but I predict it will be the residents of South Orange Village...

Another image... The chopped salad with skirt steak looks pretty good.

I predict that the Village Cellar will be a local hit, but unless SOPAC opens sooner than projected, I fear that this deserving eatery may lack the financial staying power required to see it through to the "good times"... Perhaps Mr. Shamsky should make regular appearances and sell autographs...

Pity. Places like it do very well here in Boca...

Oh, and I further predict that your local neo-Mex Toro Loco will soon be adding more "American" menu items, followed by... perhaps... a name change???

Go in peace.

Well, my friend and I went by the other night and we had a couple of drinks and looked at the menus. There is a shirt steak salad offered on the lunch menu; I love skirt steak so I'm guessing I'll like shirt steak too...!

If you try it let me know...
