So....does the idea of whole wheat pasta make you think of eating glass?

Well, I must say that I've agreed until now. Had Bionaturae organic WW fettucine tonight and it was by far the best ww pasta ever! Actually enjoyable and toothsome, not gritty and peculiar as most I've had has been. Texture, not flavor, is usually the issue and the texture of this is close to that of normal nowhere-near-as-nutritious pasta. I got it at Fairway in NYC but I would think Whole Stain might carry it...

You should look for this and try it--really yummy.

BTW, I made white clam sauce from scratch w/ cockles and littlenecks and it was goooood...post or PL if intrigued.

Eat well, all.

David

Good tip, I'll look out for it.

I've become a big fan of the Barilla Plus pastas. It has more fiber and protein than regular pasta, it's not whole wheat, though, it's multigrain, and the texture and taste is nearly identical to regular pasta. I think just about every grocery store has it, I've bought it at Pathmark and the A&P in West Orange.

I like Healthy Harvest WW spagetti. The other shapes not as much.

Bionature is by far the best WW pasta. Whole foods carries it and Kings used to carry their fusilli but alas they no longer seem to have it.

If anyone is doing the Weight Watcher Core diet then WW pasta is a must and this one is the only one that tastes good.

thanks for the tips. I made WW pasta the other night (I think it was healthy harvest) but Notehead didn't really love it. I made it once before, but mixed in regular pasta. I personally liked it, but need to try some other options to satisfy my other half

I only use whole wheat linguine for anchovy pasta (anchovies, olive oil, breadcrumbs -- and capers if you like). Likewise, I prefer whole wheat pasta with sauces with black olives (oil-cured). It's especially nice with a sauce of eggplant, black olives, capers, cherry tomato, maybe some rosemary, maybe some chili flakes and definitely ricotta salata if you have it around. (Feta can be nice too.)

I like De Cecco.

OK JC, I clicked the link and will go soon. How often do you go?

When I mailed you I was reading the copy of your post sent to me that didn't have the link.

Be well and eat well, all.

Hello all.

May I apologize for the unnecessarily vulgar title of this post?

Asterisks notwithstanding, my inappropriate verb usage was simply that, inappropriate.

Couldn't I have just said "no kidding!"?

I tried to edit but was past the cutoff time for doing so. In any event, try the pasta.

With chagrin,

Be well, all,

David

David, I normally wouldn't read a thread on whole wheat pasta - but the *** got me interested.

I tried some this weekend. (A direct result of profanity). I liked it. I won't eat it all the time - but it is a nice change.

Hmmm. Off the bat - I'd have to say "not for me". Whole wheat pizza dough sounds...wheaty and dry.

The Whole Foods brand of w/w pasta is excellent - we like the penne (haven't tried the linguini).

A second approval here for Whole Foods w/w pasta line. The linguine is terrific. Does need to cook longer than the directions indicate, however.

Here's a plug for Hodgson Mill's Certified Organic Penne, with milled flax seed ("Whole Wheat Gourmet Pasta"). Got it over at Stop and Shop in Madison, where there is a good selection of whole wheat pastas. 600 mg omega-3 oils per serving, 6g fibre, 9g protein. And a better tasting pasta than any of the other whole wheat pastas I've tried. Not gritty, but very smooth, for one thing.
Charles
