We were so upset that our favorite restaurant, Jocelyn's, was closing- but decided to try the new place, Lorena's for our anniversary. We couldn't have been more pleased with everything. The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. The prices are similar to what Jocelyn's was. We did end up spending close to $100 for 3 courses plus coffee, but it was by far one of the best dining experiences we've had.... Definately worth it for a special occasion!

So that's the new name. As has been posted here elsewhere, the ownership there evidently changed months ago---only now, the name has officially changed; glad to hear the food quality is still excellent, although I'm sad that we don't have Jocelyne herself around anymore.

Lorena is the fiancee of the new chef Humberto.
You're gonna like her!
And Humberto has great chops.
Did time at the Ryland Inn, Stage House Inn and
Nicholas down at the shore.
We had a lovely meal there midweek a couple of weeks ago.
Braised lamb shanks, foie gras, black sea bass and a well rounded cheese course.

Still the best restaurant downtown and one of the best in the area.

Lorena's was superb! We reluctantly tried Lorena's on Friday feeling sure it would never replace our beloved Jocelyne's. Now I can say there was no need to worry. The meal was even better than when it was Jocelyne's. We had a wonderful night. Two appetizers, two entrees and a shared dessert- came to about $100 with tip. Service was excellent and the food was divine!

I agree. We used to eat at Jocelyne's a lot and Terra Cotta before that and were concerned when it changed hands. The food at Lorena's is as good if not better and clearly some of the best in the area. I also agree that Lorena herself is lovely and very nice to deal with.

One of the many things we enjoyed about dining at Jocelyne's was that the tables were nicely spaced. Even on a Saturday night, you were not jammed in. Also the service was consistently very good, so it was a favorite place to bring friends on a weekend (if you called well ahead for reservations, of course).

Are the tables similary set up at Lorena? And is the service just as attentive on a busy weekend evening? Longer wait time to get seated upon arrival?

We ate there on a Saturday night about two months ago with my husband's parents and only had to wait a minute or two to be seated. It was lovely, and for being a small space, the tables didn't feel like they were on top of each other. Unfortunately, we didn't get to experience Jocelyne's before the takeover, but the food post-takeover was excellent and Lorena was incredibly gracious. They just seem like a nice young couple who are really excited about food and keeping the restaurant romantic and special.

I can second the good reviews of Lorena's - my recent meal there was outstanding, and great service as well. (I had the venison, hubby had the duck - both were excellent)

Lorena's received a glowing review in today's Star Ledger.
