Can anyone recommend a specific restaurant? We'll be in Edison tonight. Thanks! |

Although a hole in the wall, for really good vegetarian Indian Fast Food or "Chaat" go to Dimple. For good Indian-Chinese/Fusion, which you must try if you haven't yet, go to Ming. For atmosphere and good North-Indian cuisine (what Indian restaurants usually serve) go to Moghul. For South Indian ...I'm still looking for one I can recommend. All are on Oak Tree Road, Edison. The menus for Moghul and Ming are here: http://www.ardore.com/location.asp?c=Middlesex&t=all |

How about Swagat for south indian in Edison? Weekends the food is good. There is also Udipi palace in Montclair that has a very good sunday lunch including avial, dosas and bisibele....

Well, it's too late for tonight, Katy M, but I really like Chowpatty on Oak Tree Rd, just over the town line in Iselin (which is really just a part of Woodbridge). It's not big on ambiance. They have formica top tables. The food is vegetarian and amazingly good. They feature food of two adjacent states in India that are not represented in Indian restaurants here. I don't remember the names of the states.

There is a place called "Chopstix" that I liked on Oak Tree Road. Curious blend of Indian and Chinese. |

As an Indian person who frequents Edison, I would recommend Chowpatty and Dimple for "fast food." The food is good, authentic and they make it to your liking. These places aren't even close to fancy, water served in plastic pitchers sold at Kmart, styrofoam plates, plastic utensils. The food is as authentic as my grandmother's food. You will not see many non-Indians in the place and the staff may muddle thru English, but you will get a great experience! If I am in Edison at any mealtime, I only go to Dimple or Chowpatty. |
