On a rare Sunday night without kids we had a date night. Decided to go to a BYOB but didnt have wine. Tried A&P but didnt find anything I liked. Then just for the heck of it I went to that store, (I think it's A&D liquors). Anyway two people asked me if I needed help. I asked for a very good carmeniere that I had tasted earlier in the month. He didn't have it, but he had another. I mulled it over, then the guy say's "wanna try it". He had an opened bottle in the frig and poured a taste. It was pretty good, I paid 17 dollars (7 more than I had planned) and off I went. The place was funky and comfy. I have been in hundreds of wine stores, and this one i'll go back to.

We actually went there one Sunday evening when everything else was closed and we were on our way to a friends place for dinner, didn't have time to go out to the Wine Library (the only place I would imagine was open then) and were in charge of bringing the wine... (I know - poor planning). But, we picked up a great bottle of Bordeaux -- got rave reviews at the dinner table.

That place looks like such a dive and it's really odd. I have to admit, I was a little nervous as our friends (and their friends who were also there) took their first taste - I didn't know how this bottle purchased at this mysterious place would be....

I'd go back there (although, I'd prefer to go there during daylight hours next time...that stretch of valley gives me the creeps at night)

If we don't have a bottle on hand or decide spur of the moment to go to Japanese— we buy wine or a cold Sapporo there quite often.

We go there all the time. Sanjay, the owner, is a great guy and will really listen to suggestions on new wine to get. He actually started getting in Australian wine (a few years back) after we suggested he start carrying it. And he did!

And don't be afraid of that section of Valley. Yeah there is a lack of strong streetlights but there is nothing to be afraid of. I've been walking there since we moved into SO and unless you are scared by a skinny white boy, forget about it.

They also carry Irish cider, one of the few places that do. Sanjay is a really nice guy and very helpful.

Really nice people own the place. It's been open for several years now and I've been going there on and off since it's inception. They always expand their stock. I love Smithwicks when I'm in the beer mode and they had it as soon as it became available here. The place is open when others are closed. Also, their prices can't be beat. And the neighborbood is alright. And no, I don't work there! I'm a townie.

Maybe not a townie, but a transplanted one of a mere 12 years.
