I haven't been to 'Little India' lately (Oak Tree Rd in Iselin, near to the Metropark at the GSP).

It's the Diwali Festival of Lights on November 1st.....I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are any festivals taking place there?

Now that the weather is getting colder it's the perfect time for eating curries and other Indian meals...

There are pre-Diwali festivities (Navratri) late in the night on weekends at Parsippany High School. These involve folks dressed in traditional Indian costumes dancing the dandiya. They are also being held at Raritan somewhere.
Diwali is Oct 31st and some communities (Gujaratis) celebrate their new year Nov 1st.
There will be food specials in most restaurants and prepared food stores.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you think that most restaurants will be closed on the 31st and/or the 1st so that the staff can celebrate at home with their families?

The restaurants will be open and will have specials...

It is a communal holiday where most establishments stay open. It brings good luck to be open the first day of the year and even better luck if you do good business. This is an indication for the year to come!

I would suggest attending something that is not geared toward any one particular linguistic community. The one I listed here seems to be for a general audience.
