My husband & I would like to take a warm weather/beach vacation with our daughter who will be 18 months old next spring (March) for about 5 days. We'd love any suggestions. We'd like somewhere we can get from Newark non-stop, without a long flight (3 hrs-ish). |

We did Matha's Vineyard one year when our daughter was 1.5 and then Toronto the next year when she was 2.5 and had a great time in both places with her. |

Club Med - Sandpiper. Fly to West Palm Beach & drive 1 hour north. Nice kids club & you can put them in there at night if you would like to go to the "adults only" restaurant. |

Choose a resort (like those in KeY West) that has a zero-entry pool. You enter the pool at zero inches of water and it gradually goes up. It's not walled, exactly, more surrounded. It's ideal for little kids, who can paddle and splash in the pool with you, not in a baby pool gulag. |

We have a 2 and 4 year old and are going to FL next week. We almost went here: http://www.lagomar.com/index.html But couldn't get the dates we wanted. So we are going to Sanibel Island on the gulf coast near Ft Myers. Looks pretty cool, and the best part for us is we are staying in a condo which is so helpful with little kids. Do wish we could have found a place with a zero entry pool but oh well. Will let you know how it goes. |

From what I hear it isn't too bad. Everyone has power and our hotel has been accepting guests this week. |

I went to the Dominican Republic to an all inclusive when I had two small children. It was really great, the staff was very friendly and helpful, we paid for nothing out-of-pocket while we were there, and it was relatively inexpensive. It was really nice to just relax with the kids and not have to think about anything else. |

not again...

have you considered Puerto Rico? Quick flight, still feels "foreign" in a way, and best of all, beautiful weather! i don't knw about all inclusives, but there are some nice hotels there. We stayed at the Ritz carlton (without kids) but saw that there were quite a few people there with theirs. |

Got back from Sanibel Island last week. It was perfect for us. The resort was Casa Ybel and it is a timeshare and hotel. All rooms face the ocean. But there are tons of timeshares all over the island. We basically walked from our room 20 yards to the beach where there soft sand and tons of shells to collect, to the pool (they have regular and kiddy pools). The island is ery laid back. There is a wildlife refuge to walk/bike/drive through. Lots of bike paths all over. There must be a regulation to keep buildings under 3 stories, and there are very few chain stores and restaurants (I saw a CVS and that was about it). Everything is very "local" and homey. I wouldn't go with teens as it seems pretty quiet for them (no boardwalks or the like) but for young kids it was great. Kids went to bed in the condo every night at 8 and hubster and I hung out on the balcony watching the waves. About as relaxing as we could get with 2 toddlers. Until #1 threw up in the rental car on the way to the airport...but that is another story. |

Thanks Wendyn! Thanks All! You know, we were looking at Sanibel & have heard good things from other folks. Local & homey sound pretty good to me. I've also heard good things about the all-inclusives in the DR. I'm going to check both of those options out. |

I just got back from the Dominican Republic last week. Wonderful place - highly recommend it. We were able to find a direct flight through Continental - they're rare, but they're out there. The resort we went to doesn't allow kids, so I can't speak to that angle of your trip, but this was the first time I did the all-inclusive thing and it was definitely the way to go. One thing I wanted to mention is that I would recommend going to a resort that is not on the Atlantic side of the island. The water was so rough we couldn't snorkel, swim or anything in it. I think it's that way all year round. We had just as good a time lounging by the pools, but wanted to mention that if you're looking into DR |
