Hi all, I received this letter in the mail today and wanted to share the great news! Tomo will open his new place Nov. 3. 113 Rt. 23 in Little Falls. (Near the Willowbrook Mall.) 973-837-1117 Unfortunately it's not right here, but my family looks forward to checking it out. It's been 3 1/2 years since Tomo closed his SO Ave doors...we went for our last meal there right after we had our youngest, and coincidentally found out it was their last day in business. If anyone has the opportunity to go, please post. |

Not sure it was ever good enough for a trip to Little falls, but glad he's still plugging. |

Tomo's was the all-time-best sushi that ever arrived in New Jersey. It's worth the ride. Heck, I'd drive twice as far as Little Falls. |

Hey Dave...did you get a letter? I am curious. We will most certainly go. Maybe Sunday if we can swing it. Ya' think Fin is still with him? |

(Guessing Earlster thinks your sentence could be construed as a Hannibal Lecter line?) Not sure about Fin or what her relationship was with Tomo. Would be great if she were still there. |

Or maybe Earlster's amused by It Girl's inadvertant implication that having a child is a death sentence? |

I once asked Fin if she was his wife and she stammered and blushed and said she was not. Still don't know what their relationship was however, other than dutiful hostess/waitress and sushi chef/restauranteur! |

But the real question is, Is Tomo still smart and handsome ?. Cause ya know, preparing Sushi takes time so if you're in a hurry, please go to McDonald. I always loved those signs. AND his Sushi. |

I still wonder why he left in the first place. Does anyone know why he is reopening some place other than the S. ORange/Maplewood are since he had such a good reputation here? |

WE MADE IT! It was incredible. My first sip of soup, my first bite of squid reminded me why we loved it the way we did and why all the Jersey places we've been to since are no comparison. We took the Pkwy to 3 to 46 to 23...took 1/2 hour but was unpleasant driving. Going home we stayed on 23 which is Pompton Ave...through Little Falls, Cedar Grove, Verona, to Prospect Ave in West Orange...it's about 10 or so minutes past the Manor. I think no matter which way you go it will be more or less 1/2 hour. FIN IS THERE! We walked in and she said "Hello S, Hello J" as if we were in last week. How cool is that? The girls were on their best behavior, everyone ate so much delicious food, we had ice cream too! The place is much less kitschy than before, very neat and clean. Tomo is there, waving hello from behind a few bamboo blinds which separate the main dining space from the small sushi bar. It's a few minutes from the Mall and tons of movies, but the strip of 23 has a lot of sushi joints and bars too. Dave, Fin said she didn't have your address to send you a letter. Everyone who enjoyed it in the past, please make the trip and go. It was well worth it! |

I'm going to try to make it there between meetings on Thursday. We left a prior address with them (moved in between). I like supporting local business, but this guy is in another universe. |

Aw Dave...you said you'd go twice as far as LIttle Falls! Remember..."Tomo's was the all-time-best sushi that ever arrived in New Jersey. It's worth the ride. Heck, I'd drive twice as far as Little Falls." The ride wasn't bad. Squeeze it in...they'd be so happy to see you! Unbefreakinlievably, Fin remembered what we liked and what one of our daughter's liked. My girls asked if they'd still get a little candy bad after the meal and sure enough, Fin walked over and discreetly asked if she could give the girls a little bag of candy each. They are thrilled to have a special treat from Tomo and Fin for their lunch boxes tomorrow (and the next day and the next day.)

Darn, I must have missed this thread last week. I actually had to go to Fortunoff yesterday and drove right past Tomo's...I definitely would have stopped in. I'll just have to make the trip again. It'll be good to see them. Like Dave, I moved as well since they took my address when they closed, so I didn't get a letter. I'm glad someone here did. VIG: One of Tomo's cardinal rules was that if they didn't see you in two weeks, they don't know you! Shame on them for remembering... That reminds me, I have to go dig something up.

I believe someone else found out about them opening from my post here. Fin asked me if I knew a Barbara who went, but I'm not sure who she's referring to. Anyway, they were glad I posted it because there were so many people whose addresses they didn't have. |

We got the letter and finally made it over there last night - can't believe it took us 6 days!!! :-) We used to be weekly regulars in SO and were heartbroken when they left. Have been putting up with the fair, but still mediocre, sushi in the area since then. Tomo and Fin were thrilled to see us - they even remembered the friends that we introduced to the restaurant and asked after them. The sushi was better than ever. They had a fish liver pate appetizer that was pure heaven. Sort of like the usual liver pate but much lighter in both texture and taste. The spanish mackerel was superb (my wife won't eat it anywhere else), and the eel avocado roll was spot on with just a touch of sweet sauce instead of the great dollop that you get everywhere else. Dave, you hit the nail on the head - we felt like we were in another universe. The decor was also much better than the old place, which I think put off many from going in the past. It's 30 minutes exactly. Go straight up Wyoming which becomes Gregory. Follow the road around to the left at the end and then make the right at the Japanese Steak House. Keep on up past Essex Green and K-Mart and across the 5-way in Verona onto Rte 23. You'll pass through another town and on into Little Falls and it's on the left side in a detached building with parking at the back. Run, don't walk, to one of the best eateries in the area. Get there quick before everyone discovers it and you can't get a table!

VIG - this is great news, albeit not as great as if they had returned closer to our neck of the woods. I would go the way Phil says, but it's slow and pokey crawling along 23 there. They're very close to another long-time Japanese restaurant there - Sukeroku, I think - but there's probably enough business to go around. I'm pretty sure I know who Barbara is, so I'll be sure to let her know. |

Sorry I meant to post this here not under bill and harry---- After hearing all these reviews me and my wife headed to tomo. Boy were we dissapointed. The sushi at best was Ok the service was slow and really not worth the trek. If you want really good sushi and like fushion as well head over to sushi nouveau in montclair on bloomfield ave just across from the Jaguar dealer next to the fire house. I am not saying Tomo was not a good sushi restaurant I am saying it is no better than the one in our town. To drive that far I need something special and Tomo is not special just good. We spent with tip $90.00 and not worth it. |

My hubby and I use to be "REGULARS" at the sushi place before Tomo's (Daruma Sushi) and we are really bummed that they closed down.. but I have heard some good things about Tomo on this board.. do they have "ALL-U-CAN-EAT Sushi"??? Any feedback is appreciated.. Thx |
