I love B&H...I order ONLY the General Tso's chicken. I'm a creature of habit. My wife and I tried Ginger Taste a couple of weeks ago, and for the sake of comparison, I ordered the General Tso's chicken. There was no comparison at all. The Bill and Harry's was and always has been superior. I do have a feeling that Ginger Taste is not the place to go for Chinese, but rather other types of Asian food. Some of the other things they have there looked good. THe honey banannas for dessert were good.

We like the Szechuan Dumplings at Ginger Taste and they have great Basil Fried Rice. Every entree we tried though was just okay. I don't think we will go back.

Penang, East Hanover, Rt. 10
Kari Mee* $6.95
Noodles served in a spicy lemon grass, coconut curry, with shredded chicken, shrimp, or yong tofu

I get it with Shrimp, my wife substitutes beef and chow fun noodles. I'm in heaven. I have been there 20 times, and I have had this dish 19 times. It's just so good I can't stop ordering it. I crave this one dish. And I dare you to beat the price. It really is stellar. On the other hand, you gotta like alot of flavor, and you have to be in the mood for a noodle dish. Personally, I find it sublime, and well worth the 20 minute drive.

Just tried B&H last week. The owners/ people working there were super nice. They were closing up and the cook put his apron back on to help me out.

Sometimes it's best to ask what they recommend. I did so and they gave me scallops and vegetables in black bean sauce. It was great!
They are one of the only places that I have found that use fresh water chestnuts.

I also added lemon chicken and kung pao shrimp which were both good. Now, I haven't had the sesame chicken, but these two dishes that I got had lettuce at the bottom. I don't consider it filler. I condisider it lining...it's important with the lemon chicken, so the chicken doesn't dry out. I think that's the general idea with the veggies at the bottom. Has no one here seen a baggie of weed with lettuce in it?

Did you guys have that bit on PBS (usually right after Sesame Street) where there was a little Chinese kid who gave an interesting fact about Chinese Americans and at the end always said, "I am proud to be a Chinese American". Well, we had it in the San Francisco Bay Area. And I feel like I should end my post with it.

I am proud to be a Chinese American :-)

I don't know if I'm missing something, but Penang the city is in Malaysia. Is it maybe Malaysian food you are talking about, Alley and Grrr? I haven't been to that resturaunt. Just wondering.

After hearing all these reviews me and my wife headed to tomo. Boy were we dissapointed. The sushi at best was Ok the service was slow and really not worth the trek. If you want really good sushi and like fushion as well head over to sushi nouveau in montclair on bloomfield ave just across from the Jaguar dealer next to the fire house. I am not saying Tomo was not a good sushi restaurant I am saying it is no better than the one in our town. To drive that far I need something special and Tomo is not special just good. We spent with tip $90.00 and not worth it.

Standard order at Penang for kids:
Wonton soup - these are the best wontons around!
2 orders Roti canai - the 6-year old practically drinks the curry dipping sauce!
chicken satay
chicken flavored rice - 1 cup

A lot of people find Penang greasy -- but hey, it's real Asian food not formatted to be healthy.

For take-out, I also like the restaurant on South Valley Road in West Orange in the CVS shopping center. The food is fresh, the chicken is high quality (not sinewy or tough)and the prices are reasonable. And I believe they deliver locally.

do yourselves a favor and buy some cookbooks, go to Kamman and COOK YOUR OWN chinese food. The stuff here is foul! No good chinese food here. Dim sum is good at China Gourmet in WO.

OK, we went to Peking House on a few people's suggestions on the board (See Barbara and GSP's posts above). And I have to say the food was darn good. I am tempted to say it was the best Chinese meal I have had in NJ since we moved here a little over two years ago. Cheap too. I suppose you could eat there, but we did take out. Not a great atmosphere, although as noted by Dave, it does have a nice photo of the Great Wall of China.

Here's another vote for Hunan Spring. Probably been there or gotten take-out three or four times per month for twelve years. Bad dishes -- two or three. Good fortune cookies -- two or three. (Somehow they're always stale.) Table service can be inconsistent. No delivery! -- Charles

Thanks to all those who suggested Ginger Taste. We had it tonight & it was so much better (IMHO)than B&H. We had the Gen. Tsao's chix, pork fried rice & chix & broccoli in brown sauce. - A pretty boring order, but we loved it all-the-same. I am looking forward to trying the other places suggested. THANKS!

Maybe B & H is reading this board.

In the interest of convenience last night, I picked up a couple of boring dishes from B & H. They were really quite good -- way above the quality of the last time I'd ordered from there.
