Yes, it's really good food, but I like Heart & Soul better. If I can't get reservations at Heart & Soul, Niecy's is the stand by.

I love the food, and Niecy is really friendly. And unlike Heart and Soul, it doesn't feel so awkward to eat there. They have a large and nice dining room (though it's pretty dark).

Niecy's is in South Orange, next door to Mailboxes etc, but with the entrance in back parking lot, off Vose, across the street from the South Orange Library

While the food at Niecy's is very good - be prepared to wait a lo-o-ng time for it.

Ate there last night.

Had stuffed pork chops with greens and mac & cheese. Excellent. Wife had shrimp scampi, which she really enjoyed.

Sweet potato cornbread - delicious, great "invention."

Some of the best, ie, not overly sweet, lemonade around.

I've had fried chicken take out and desserts - all very good.

Re: Location - you park in the same lot as We Got Movies. Restaurant is most visible from that parking lot.

Be sure to order the uptown as a drink. (Half lemonade, half iced tea.)

They have a beautiful large space to use for an event. Probably could seat 50+?

Shrimp scampi is delicious. But yes, it can be a SUPER long wait for food. When I go again, I will get take out.

Why is Heart & Soul "awkward" C. Monty?

Not being difficult, I've just never been there and not sure whether you mean cramped space or something else?

Well, not "awkward," I guess. It's just an incredibly tiny place. I'm not sure how many tables there are... maybe 5? It's a small storefront, and there's pretty frequent traffic coming in and out for takeout orders. I get the impression most people get takeout. I've only eaten in the restaurant once. I usually get takeout.

Finally went back to Niecy's tonight...it won't be so long until we return next time!

We were the only diners crazy enough to go out in a rainstorm, other than a full house in the private party room.

Beef short ribs, BBQ salmon, sweet potato cornbread, mac & cheese, yams, veggies, all uniformly wonderful (four of us at the table, all tasting each others dishes and uniformly loving them).

Give it a try! (and no, I'm not an owner or friend of an owner...just a happy customer who wants to see more tables filled with other happy customers)

I have to admit that I've never tried Heart and Soul...we don't do take out, and the couple of times we've tried to go, they've been closed for one reason or another.
