They don't deliver but I'm a big fan of the subs at DiPietro's on Springfield Ave. Real italian subs on great bread.

I like Millburn Deli. Great sloppy joe's (the coleslaw kind not the ketchup kind).

Never tried Oscar's though grw, I'll put it on the list for the future.

DiPietro's in Springfield Avenue is great. Home made mozzarella, and great Italian cold cuts. All of their other products are wonderful as well!

Thanks for the suggestions. I just did a search for DiPietro's...no luck. Does anyone happen to know the cross street or phone?

DiPietro's is on Springfield Avenue, almost across from the Maplewood Library branch by the park. It's very unassuming (DiPietro's) from the outside, so you may not notice it. Closest thing to great Brooklyn (Bensonhurst) Italian deli that you will find in Essex County. Makes me long for 13th Avenue and 82nd St.

Oscar's in Millburn is the best.

Funny how noone posted Subway. One would think that a specialty place like that would rank high. Who eats there?

I guess the same holds true for good burgers at McDonalds.

Americans are funny.

Its all about the bread, frankly, and Subway's bread, even tho' they tout it as fresh-baked, sucks. You need good crusty Italian bread for the sammie to be autentic and tasty. LISA's in Hoboken gets MY vote.

Bella Luna in Chatham--this coming from a Vito's Deli (Hoboken) disciple.

I'll be a venturer here and post a vote for Quiznos, in East Hanover on Route 10 Westbound just before Ridgedale. Slow down, look hard, or you'll pass it. Yes, its a franchise operation, but its no Subway. Quiznos: Subway = Starbucks: Old Dunkin Donuts. And just like Starbucks, its more expensive. Fresh ingredients, great sauces, efficient operation, good toasted subway rolls. Also, a nice pepper bar. -- Charles

If you are sprung on Quizno's there is one on Morris ave by Stuvyesant. I like Mr. Sub in Union on Chestnut street. Once Campus sub sold about 3 years ago there was no good sub shacks left. DiPetro or Antonio's make pretty good stuff but I prefer the softer rolls found at more traditional sub shops. I also miss Town Hall sloppy Joe's, man they Fd up by closing that one location before the new one was opened!

js-

While I liked Fiores (great meatballs there), Vito's was more of a religious destination and had good hours. Another great place in Hoboken is Biancamano's on Washington Ave between 12th and 13th.

Trust me and order the "Bella Italiana" at Bella Luna in Chatham (across from Serenade)--worth the trip.
