I there any place nearby that does Spanish food? When I was in Brooklyn I had two Spanish restaurants on the corner and I want some yellow rice, black beans and Mofongo.

Mmmmm....Mofongo

You'll have a dozen and more Spanish and Portuguese restaurants between here and Newark. Just pick up the phone book.

I think what you're looking for is Puerto Rican and/or Dominican food (you mentioned mofongo). When I see "Spanish food" I think of food from Spain...tapas, paella, etc. I'm from Mexico so this is a peeve of mine. Until I came to the northeast no one ever referred to me as "Spanish."

Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations. I never found good Carribean Hispanic food when I lived in SO/MA.

IShep - You should look down in Elizabeth. There are a few good Cuban restaurants there.

Second vote for Spanish Tavern - I love their signs too - a few months ago it was "lobster at employee prices"!
