Any suggestions for a 1-night getaway sans kids? Preferably within 2-3 hours' drive.

An less expensive alternative to Mohonk is a B&B in New Paltz- you can still hike around the Mountain House for a small fee, and are close to Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska, plus farm stands and shopping. We just stayed at Moondance Ridge B&B, it was heavenly. We really enjoyed the whole trip, hard to believe it is so close.

We also took a weekend trip to Philly and really enjoyed it. Le Sofitel Hotel is high class and *cheap* on the weekends, since they mainly cater to weekday business travelers- definitely enjoy their European breakfast (worth the money). Lots of history to see there, plus wonderful restaurants and shopping and museums. A purple tourist bus takes you everywhere you need to go for $1.

We also enjoy cycling the Delaware Canal around Lambertville and New Hope, but have never stayed overnight.

Enjoy your getaway! It's amazing how much longer the weekend seems when you aren't in your routine.

The Rittenhouse hotel is another good one in Philly. We stayed there a few months ago. http://www.rittenhousehotel.com/

First time guests get a free upgrade (or a $50 credit if they are at full capacity). We got an upgrade to a HUGE, Beautiful Room. It's not close to Independence Hall, but you can take public transport or taxi very easily.

A second for both Mohonk and the Rittenhouse. If you go to Rittenhouse, eat at Lacroix. Great restaruant.

I loved Mohonk, but is pricey. I just checked out meandtheboys link to the Settlers Inn and it looks really lovely. I'd be inclined to check it out the next time I am feeling a desire to go to Mohonk.

thanks for the help, all. MM, where do you stay in MA? LiLB, we love the Rittenhouse, but it's booked that is what prompted my plea. Meandtheboys, thanks! Settlers and their sister inn in Bethlehem both look GREAT.

ecat, if you end up going to Settler's Inn be sure to let me know how you like it. I've always wanted to stay there myself, but it's been kind of hard to justify because my family's vacation home is 10 minutes away on Lake Wallenpaupak. We do enjoy eating dinner in the restaurant whenever we get a chance though.

I highly recommend Lambertville. We went there last year sans kids and it is a great little place. Lots of really good restaurants, shopping, and bars...
