I posted something inquiring about a natural food restaurant & got one response back (thank you for that!) - but it's all the way in Paramus. I was hoping to find something a lot closer. - Then I thought, does everyone know what "natural" food even means (I didn't for a long while)? So anyway, I'll settle for a good vegetarian or vegan restaurant in the area if anyone has any ideas?!??? |

Whole Foods has wraps kind of like what you were talking about. There's also "It's a Wrap" in SOuth Orange. Not sure if they have exactly what you want, but I used to get fresh juices there (but I think it may have been Booey's then?). |

I don't know the name, but there is a vegan restaurant on Rt. 10. I will try to get more info and post it. It is supposed to be really great! |

Most Chinese restuarants can easily serve up great vegetarian meals. There's a vegetarian mu-shu wrap (in pancake) dish at Joy Luck restaurant in West Orange that's very good. It may only be on the Chinese menu, but you can probably request it. We've ordered mu-shu wraps, four-season beans (siji dou) and sichuan tofu (mapo dofu) there as a dinner. Exceptional. |

South Indian is mostly all vegan. Closest spot for Dosas, Idlis and spiced rice dishes is Udipi Palace in Montclair. |

I was going to recommend Veggie Heaven on Rt 46 in Parsippany, but just realized that they opened a location on Valley St in Montclair. It is Chineese food. 631 Valley Road Montclair NJ 07043-1403

I don't think there are very many Vegetarian Restaurants (Like Angelica's Kitchen in the city) in the area. I certainly haven't found many myself. I'm vegetarian, but I am not super strict. I eat fish, eggs and dairy. If you are looking for places that I think are workable for a vegetarian, I'll be happy to share my favorite restaurants in the area with you. |

Some of my favorites: Love the veggie rotis at Carribbean Cuisine -- all of their rice is vegetarian and their mac and cheese is delightful (if not impossible to get), and their plaintains aren't amazing but I do like it with a side of rice. I would say it's very veggie friendly. I eat fish (sorry NBS but I would clasify myself as a lacto, ovo, pesce vegetarian and while I understand that a vegan or other vegetarians might frown upon me, I have met MANY of others who eat similarly to me and DO consider themselves vegetarians. Regardless I live a lifestyle VERY similar to vegetarians and I avoid all other meat as best as I can. I can't avoid marshmallow treats though which are usually made with horse hooves -- so sue me.) and I like Kari Mee with Shrimp at Penang in East Hanover on Rt. 10. I also LOVE the catfish at Heart and Soul cafe in So. Many of the side dishes are fabulous there too but DO ask Chef Jesse which has meat in them. I think that Ginger Taste in Milburn is very good and there are plenty of veggie dishes there. I don't do Italian in NJ very often 'cause I think it's all uneccessarily overpriced, but I sometimes enjoy the creative pasta dishes at Basilico in Milburn. I am passionate about the food at Mojave Grill in Westfield. Some of the best Southwestern food I've had on the East Coast. A must try for EVERYONE regardless of whether your vegetarian. Also in Westfield is Qdoba. Sure it's a chain, but it's nearly as good as Chipotle as far as chains go. I like it, personally. I don't eat here often, but I don't mind Baja Fresh on Rt 10 in East Hanover on rt 10, but like Qdoba I don't mind it, and there are options for vegetarians. I feel that any fast food mexican place that stocks free limes and fresh cilantro at the freebie salsa bar is pretty good in my book. I'll throw in Arturo's pizza just for the heck of it. I like the Greco pizza. It is vegetarian and has plum tomatoes, pignole nuts, feta and a touch of pesto. It's the closest thing I can get to Tony and Alba's pizza in Santa Cruz, California. I can come up with more, but that is my short list. I'd be curious what others people suggest. |

What I think we need really badly is a Falafel shack. As far as I know Montclair is the closest. Montclair has some fabulous food, but I don't find myself going there all that often. Good vegetarian Indian places, a couple good thai places, an upscale sushi place, a vegetarian friendly modern European sandwich/crepe shop (on the loop), a great Jamaican restaurant and the list goes on and on. |
