Does anyone have any recommendations for a restaurant in Philly? Looking for an upscale, romantic (possibly French) dining experience. Thanks
 Tom

Le Bec Fin is one of the finest restaurants in the country. Mobil five stars. The main dining room is quite expensive but the no-reservations bar area has a very nice menu that's much cheaper. It's still cheaper than its New York peers (Le Bernardin, Alain Ducasse, Jean Georges). Worth every penny but it'll take a lot of them.

Le Bec Fin's impressario, Georges Perrier, also runs a slightly cheaper bistro, Brasserie Perrier. Both are just east of Rittenhouse Square on Walnut.

I liked Restaurant Chloe off the Amish meeting house. It's no reservations, cash only, BYOB. Small with excellent seafood.

Fork is also excellent for seafood with a happening atmosphere.

Untried by me but well regarded are Salt, Cuba Libre and Susannah Foo.

I had a fantastic Chinese New Year tasting many moons ago at Suzanna Foo, sublime!

I just replied with the same info as Robert Little in another thread. We love "bp" and we like the Black Bass across the street. (I don't know if it is still there - in the old bank building.)

I think its the Striped Bass..unless they changed the name..striking place...had an excellent meal there too.

 Tom,

try posting a request at chowhound.com. When we went to Philly a year ago, I posted looking for recommendations and everything I got was spot on, for casual and upscale.

Oooh, the Striped Bass has excellent food and a beautiful interior. I also second Fork, but it's definitely smaller scale and more hipster.

 Tom,

Since you want romantic, Im guessing this isnt one of your client soirees.

Striped Bass is a seafood restaurant, as the name sort of indicates. Masaharu Morimoto of Nobu and Iron Chef fame opened his own restaurant in Philadelphia...called Morimoto. If youre staying overnight and driving and want a good brunch/breakfast place for your way out of town, let me know..we ate at a place near the Italian section that was the best breakfast Ive had outside of Veselka in ages.

Tangerine. Zagat has 24 food and the rest of categories above that. Loved it.

Our trip is this coming weekend, but we've made reservations at the following places; Suzanna Foos and Positano Coast for dinner and Sabrina's Cafe for Brunch on Sunday. But still welcome suggestions. The only one of the three that we've tried before is Suzanna Foos.

 Thanks
 TK

If you want to get off the beaten path, consider Bridgids, located behind the Art Museum. Great food, casual atmosphere that's a local favorite, and over 100 belgium beers by the bottle/on-tap. If you are going to be in that area, I'd definitely give it a roll. www.bridgids.com

Also, consider the White Dog Cafe which is virtually on the University of Pennsylvania Campus. Fantastic food, great ambience, and everything is organic with a local flavor. www.whitedog.com

Hands down my two favorites in the city, but neither will be too upscale and good for either lunch or dinner.

 Thanks SJ

Lunch hasn't been planned so I'll keep your suggestions with me. I'll let you know if we get to try them.

Again, thanks for taking the time.

 Regards
