Has anyone ever been in the Tavern in the house off of the Entry ramp from Vauxhall rd. onto Rt. 78 East? What's the story there? I've been curious about what it's like, but it seems a little odd sitting in the middle of a resi neighborhood.

Liberty Tavern? To the left, off Liberty Ave, just as you turn right on to the ramp?

I've heard it's good as Tavern's go.

I too always wonder about that place. It seems so bizarre, stuck there within somebody's house (and right next to all the other houses). Maybe we should have a MOL meeting there.

It's a good local hang with a shuffle board table, "?" shaped bar and good prices. Live music can be too loud, and it can get crowded. but it's a solid local stop.

Husband and I stopped in one night to hear the Kootz (a 60s/70s cover band.. great fun). I called to see if they served food... she said yes, full menu service. A better question would have been - "do you have tables?" The food was soso.. even for bar food. It's a hang out for the locals.. SoOrange/Maplewood offer better "hangs" and much better food.. and the added bonus of tables.

Some of my friends and I have been there a few times. Have run into Maplewood / South Orange people every time we've been there. For those of you who grew up here it reminds me of the old O'Rielly's. The place isn't that big. In the 'main room' there is seating at the bar and maybe 5 tables.

Food is good and a reasonable price. The owner is very nice and has a lot of good stories to tell about the history of the place.

As someone mentioned there is live music. The lead singer of one band, ttp://www.jodyjoseph.net/ is rumored to be related to Bon Jovi.

The only gripe I have about the place is it's very smokey. And many of you know how much I hate smoke!

JTA - one caveat - the "tables" are bar height.. and there's maybe 4.

The liberty is a cool stop for beer/pool/shuffle board - I wouldn't eat there. But, that's just me.
