Anyone catch the review of Voro in the Star Ledger: http://www.nj.com/dining/reviews_ledger.ssf?25400?25400 While I am glad Voro is here, I think the Star Ledger summed it perfectly: "The food tends to be executed competently, but don't look for much in the way of groundbreaking culinary moments. Voro is more about "being there," sitting at the polished wood tables with your pals and making the scene. " |

I was looking forward to sampling some of Voro's cuisine at the recent SO Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting, but it was bland and (very) poorly presented. Maybe it was an off-night, but it did't enter even the outer orbit of my NYC dining experiences (Babbo, Esca, Lupa). Perhaps I shouldn't judge by this standard, but making NYC comparisons has been Voro's marketing thrust, so that's where I notched my expectations. The service, while well-meaning, also was a bit inexperienced, though not as inexperienced as at Papillion was in their first few months. I'll try Voro again in the spring to see what's what. Next week I'll check out the Village Cellar. |

I went to Voro last week for dinner. I had been there before for drinks but never for dinner. I had the warm gaot cheese salad which was great and my boyfriend had the shrimp appetizer which too was great. The staff was very nice and the atmosphere was very nice as well. However, when you food came I was shocked. I ordered the $39! filet and my boyfriend ordered the rack. Both of our meat was cooked to perfection. The stranges thing was that we both had the same exact sauce. Which would't have mattered if it was good. We both thought it tasted exactly like Swanson's salsbury steak sauce. It made the whole entre awful. I really think that they used Swanson salsbury steak sauce. I dont mind paying $39 for an entre but when they use awful sauce like that on both a rack and a filet, it makes me wonder what these guys are thinking. |
