I wanted to mention that I did some of my holiday shopping at Abode, a new store on Maplewood Avenue. I think it's really quite nice with items from around the world, well-priced. I bought a beautiful blanket and also some soap. Even though I didn't love everything, unlike a lot of stores, I thought it showed individual taste. Also wanted to put a plug in for Pen and Jen's--wound up buying beautiful teapots there, along with tea, for gifts too.

The more we frequent small businesses that have owners with real taste and individual flair, the more (I hope) they will succeed ... (and perhaps the more that will open here)

I did some shopping at the new shop The Orange Tree in South Orange on the Avenue need the train trestle and have to say I was impressed with the uniqueness of the various items in the shop. Found the perfect gift for my son's girlfriend and the added plus is the store is being used as a training ground in retail for JESPY clients.

Nice place!

I really like Abode too - they have some cool furniture for good prices + a lot of cool "gifty" items.

Also kid-friendly with books and markers to keep the little ones occupied while I browsed.

PLUS - the nicest sales people in the entire world.

Went in there for the first time yesterday. While I wasn't shopping for anything in particular it is definitely a place to get an nice, unusual gift.

Don't forget Anny's on SA too. She has some nice inexpensive unique items/gifts.

I love Bee & Thistle. Sometimes I find exactly the right thing, sometimes just look around. Owners are very helpful but not at all pushy. Everthing seems reasonably priced.

Also really like Kokoro. I've bought things for relatives, teachers, kids, and even babies there. And I love how they wrap.

I have gotten gifts at the little candle shop (on S. Orange Ave west of the Exxon Station) and at Urban Femme (they have picture frames, jewelry and cards).
