Took my fashion-conscious daughter and her friends to Soho yesterday, and while they prowled around the Sephora megastore I snuck across the street to see what D&D had. Wilted, browning-around-the-edges produce -- and mislabeled at that. And the seafood counter was a scandal. Two deceased lobsters sitting on ice with a sign, "Holiday Special -- Live Lobsters $19.98/lb." Well there's a sucker born every minute, I guess. |

A few years ago when I lived in the city, a freind of mine had her parents visit from Germany. They wanted to know where to pick up some groceries and she (being new to the city) told them D&D. They said they knew that NY was expensive, but they had no idea it would be SO expensive! Still makes me laugh to think of doing basic grocery shopping there. |

More than ten years ago I bought smoked trout there that was totally moldy on the inside. Never bought anything from the charcuterie counter again. Back when I lived near there after five pm all the produce was half price. I wonder if that's still the case? |
