Are these going to be your basic dogs dressed up in chili and cheese, or a really good choice of links, chosen with care by people who actually know what good saussages tastes like? Will they have excellent bread/buns (like Top Dog in Berkeley)?. Will they let us put on our own choice of mustard, ketsup, mayo, relish and chopped onions and not charge extra for these things???? I guess it's too soon to tell.

Sounds good--I plan to go!
That said, it would be nice if there were a place to get other kinds of saussages on rolls, tho. The place I refered to in Berkeley, CA, has foot-long dogs, hot-links, linguisa (sp?) bratwurst, kielbassa, and others. They get their stuff from all these different producers to make sure it's the best that's made locally. The do it all inside a little shack, and cook up on on the griddle. They only serve potato chips and drinks, and just have a small bar to eat at. NYC has had several hotdog places crop up lately, with lots of fancy toppings like above, as well as interesting sides. However, none to my knowledge has just focused on the meat and the bun. The basics done right.

Went to AHD last night, had a great time. The fries were awesome... (we ended up ordering another large order of fries.).. The hamdog hotburger was neat -- husband had it with chili and cheese inside.

I wish this place the best of luck.

Aunt, did you look at the photo that SODA posted? That is not the pizza place location. Rays is much larger and not on Bloomfield ave. I believe it is on rt 23 (Pompton).

It looks to me like this is the storefront that had the little chineese or japanese restaurant in it....right near Mardi Gras - the gourmet shop.

Yes, it is right next to Mardi Gras Catering... in the strip mall just west of the car dealership (DCH?). There is also a bagel place in the same strip mall.

Tried this place last night. The hot dog(Caped crusader: bacon wrapped dog, chili, slaw) was great! The downside is that the fries, which were highly touted, were awful-they were all ends and fragments and crumbs, too small and insubstantial to dip in the side of cheez whiz. Maybe I got the tail end of a batch. Next time I will get 2 dogs instead.

I went yesterday during the day and ordered a Caped Crusader. Awesome dog! Had issues with the fries as well. They told me that they had to cook the fries again and would bring them out to me. I didn't have ends, but the fries were a bit soggy and greasy - almost like their grease wasn't hot enough.

Owners were friendly. Would go back again for the dogs.

If you want great hot dogs, and a truly nostalgic experience you need to make the pilgrimage to Hot Dog Johnies in Butzville, NJ. It is a road side stand with a play ground for kids, and a pic nic area next to the river. It attracts everyone from bikers in leather jackets and seniors to families and tourists. I think they may brew their own birch beer too.

Got an email from WO Watercooler indicating there was an electrical fire at AHD on Sat AM 2/25. Eric and Matt hope to reopen in 6-8 weeks. I wish them the best of luck and am hoping for a quick re-opening.

Very sorry to hear that--I tried AHD for the first time last weekend, and it was indeed amazing. It was a little hard to find--it's in the middle of a small strip mall on Bloomfield ave (for some reason I was looking for a freestanding place, and drove past it twice!)
Looking forward to the reopening.
there was a small article in the Ledger Essex Co. section about the fire.

From their website:

Eric Eisenbud and Matt Applebaum, owners of Amazing Hot Dog, are saddened to announce that there was an unfortunate electrical fire at their recently opened restaurant early Saturday morning, February 25th.

The restaurant - which opened on January 16th and is located at 148A Bloomfield Avenue in Verona - is temporarily closed. No other stores in the Brookdale Plaza strip mall were damaged, and thankfully no one was injured.

Matt and Eric fully intend to rebuild and reopen Amazing Hot Dog within a 4-6 week period.

Is it me or is Soda always promoting places that close down soon after his posts? The one in West Orange and now this one. Careful with that kiss of death, mr bubbly, or Sbenois will turn you away from his Yumster establishments.

To the esteemed Mr. Ross: I am considering legal action against you and your little electronic playground. You have crossed a line here, and must be taken to task.

To wit: So far as I am aware, my patooted ex-employee has made absolutely no comment on this thread regarding Amazing Hot Dogs. The promotion of that adorable eatery -- which you saw fit to lump together with Soda's past slurping of WISH, Jocelyn's, Don's, Adler & Co., THD, and several other local establishments now only patronized in memory -- has been entirely mine, and, as I have just recently posted (to my own disappointment, be assured), I was, in fact, taken entirely by surprise by the conflagration in Verona.

I am, however, currently divining whether the obcsure cause of the fire was the sudden malfunction of a computer backup battery, some random mischief on the part of Thor (known for His whimsical destruction of eateries whose avatars look better in tights than He does), or perhaps even some dastardly act by Soda himself, in retribution for my cancellation of his R&R privileges here in Boca...

No matter. You have intimated that Soda and I might be (gods forbid!) the same entity, which my attorneys advise me may be "Causus Litigous" (legalese for a legit beef, over which I might very well sue your punk tuchas for libellous and erroneous "outing" of My Celestial Self).

At the very least, Mr. Ross, you tempt the Evil Eye, itself no small risk given either the tenuous state of your finances or your less than imposing height. Would you fancy being suddenly turned into a newt, or perhaps have that idiotic Maplewood-Cam of yours inexplicably focused on the undressing habits of nearby nubile nymphs? Hmmm? Esaily done, let me tell you....

So have a care, mortal. I expect nothing less than an abject apology post from you, including a stipulation confirming that (since I reside -- as we all know -- in genteel semi-retirement here in Boca, and Soda dwells -- wretchedly unemployed -- in some hovel in South Orange, NJ) I cannot possibly be him, nor he Me.

As to your pathetic threat of my being excluded from the questionable delights of Mr. Sbenois' menu items, you seem to forget that when I choose to assume invisibility, I may pass at will into his Cafe, the dishevelled offices of his Engineering firm, or even into the semi-Kosher kitchen of his dwelling, laughing hysterically at him as he vainly attempts to once again recreate Library Lady's Matzoh Charlotte using his ersatz ingredients... and even his fabled Eye in the Sky cannot detect me if such is my choice.

In sum, Mr. Ross you have messed with the wrong supernatural entity, and (apologies to Paddy Chayevsky) YOU WILL ATONE!!! I await your grovelling response.

Go in peace, and if I were you, I'd lay off the Yumsters. They go right to your hips...

Pizzaz, since you have seen fit to enter this thread armed only with your sadly limited wits and some inauthentic, limp-crusted gibberish (which, in your gin-soaked, second-hand nicotine-choked haze, I can only infer you regard as blank verse), I feel impelled to share with you one subject where my poor, benighted ex-lackey and I always saw eye to eye: neither of us found your "pizza" equal to even the standard pies available at Reservoir, Four Brothers from Italy/Pirates Pizza, Village, El Greco, Sunrise/Frank's, Roman Gourmet, Village Trat, or Arturo's, or... or... How disappointing (but typical) that failing to recognize that the local culinary bar is set too high for your paltry abilities, you persist in offering the lowest common denominator in "Italian" food. Do you also offer an Italian Hot Dog???

Barnum was right.

Go in peace, and attempt poety no more.

The only sad wit is your own. Boca along, old man... you bore those who know your appetite. The Italian word that comes to mind in view of your personal eating habits is gavone! Do you need a translation? Italian hot dog you ask, you don't even know....

..and peace be with you.

Hey Dave!

Isn't it punishment enough that some of the places I've praised have gone belly-up? You don't gotta paint me with that "kiss-of-death" brush. That's not fair.

Don't forget: I've also been in the vanguard of those panning some of the awful places hereabouts that so well deserved their eventual demises. Might I mention just a few?
*The Bun & Burger and its immediate replacement
*The Blue Moon Diner
*That stupid Tanning Salon on S.O.A.
*Howard Saving Bank and its immediate replacement
*First Union Bank
*Campus Sub
*ShopRite
*Bunny's (oops, they're still there...)
*Midas Muffler
*Upper Trend
You get the idea...

And what's with this "Soda is The Oracle" crapola? I may have worked for that celestial tightwad at one time, but at least I stuck around. You won't see me skulking off to Wrinkle City like that cosmic windbag did. I like it here, and I'll still be here when THD reopens, and the Village Market, Village Diner, and SOPAC are all packing 'em in...

Have you no gratitude for my service in creating MOL's logo slogan? Or how about all the other neat stuff I've posted over the years? How about that? I don't know about you anymore, Dave. I used to think you were pretty cool. These days, I've got my doubts...

-s.

BTW: Even if you don't apologize to The Orifice of MOL, I still think you've played me cheap. So how about some dap, Dave???
