I just noticed this rather large restaurant named Quincy's just as you go into West Orange off No. Ridgewood. I have never seen it mentioned here...which is not a good thing I guess. But what type of place is it and is it any good?

Sully- Yes, yes and yes. Basic Bennigan's-meets-Pizzeria Uno. Convenient, pleasant and reasonably priced. Probably not as good as the better spots in S.O. but it offers more variety.

I really like Quincy's. The food has improved GREATLY in the past year. I LOVE their strip steak, hubby does ribs, and kid does pizza. Pitchers of beer and a very nice staff.

It's a friendly neighborhood place just up the road from Gaffer's.

It's OK for adults who want a few beers and food.

What makes it "nice" is that it's locally owned and not part of a chain like Bennigans or Chili's.

Is it just beer and wine, or a full bar?

Full bar. Again, the strip steak is very good -- they do medium rare perfectly. Personally, I think Quincy's is superior to most other local bar/restaurants. Their pizza is GREAT. It is very clean and nice. Plenty of parking.

Once you get past the bar entrance area, it's not smoky. The big dining area down a couple of stairs is non-smoking. God forbid you have to use the restroom, though. Then it's like walking through an ashtray.

My family likes the pizza (it's a good, thin bar pie) , the sunburger (burger topped w/ taylor ham) and the cheesesteak on garlic bread. You know, all your healthy choices.

I like quincy's also, although the past couple times I've been, service has been not so great. Its a nice family place where you can get a beer and burger and a good pie. I haven't tried their steak, I will have to expand my menu next time. The ribs are pretty good as well.

I'm never going there again. Had the vegetarian lasagne, and it was inedible. Husband had something he didn't like. It had a pretty bar-room atmosphere, even in the rear dining area (which has no windows). Dark and depressing and I really felt like we wasted our money. Frankly I very suprised anyone likes it at all.

Innisowen- Quincy's is no where near Gaffers, it's just over the S.O. line on S. Valley Rd. Gaffer's is over by Main/ Eagle Rock Ave. past Tory Corner.

Quincy's is good for steaks. I haven't eaten there in some time though. Quincy passed away about a year or two ago. Really nice guy.

10+ years ago it was Charley Browns (as in Millburn), After that it was Sun Tavern (as on Rt 22 in Springfield). For the last 6 or so years it as been under its current name. I understand the owner is/was interested in buying Toro Loco. I don't know the status of that now. We enjoy the thin crust Hawaii Pie. We have been going there (or by getting takeout) at least once a month for over 12 years. It normally is good. Or at least it is close by.

I have been there a few times and have enjoyed the food. However, the last 2 times I went there (about 6 and 7 months ago) the waiter freaked me out, and I did not return. He was hanging around the table doing magic tricks and trying to put on some kind of a show. I just don't need that when I am just trying to have a nice meal with the lady-friend.

the suspense was killing me so I took the family there tonight for dinner. we were pleasantly surprised (and we're picky). My ribs were very good and my wife said that her salad was very fresh and very tasty. I had sweet potato fries with my ribs and they were also quite good. I had one draft beer (Yuengling) and it seemed a little flat, but it was so cold I wasn't sure. My wife's house chardonnay was good. The kids had chicken nuggets/fries/ice cream, all in good portions. Our total bill was under $50! The service was fairly good and we didn't smell the smoke from the bar area back in the dining area. There was a pretty good crowd in both areas. I notice they have happy hours with complimentary pizza and discounted drinks, karaoke on Wednesdays, NFL Pass on Sundays and takeout. Overall, we were pleased with the meal and will definitely be back to try other items on the huge menu. I also want to try their Guinness.
