Pass this place all the time on the way to the gym. What's it like (I understand from the other post that the burgers are good)? Are kids welcome? How are the prices? Thanks |

It's like Jersey, through and through. Get the mushroom soup. Take the kids. Make a res. |

Pal's is where you take your grandmother when she comes to town Very traditional. Which is not to say that the food is bad. Their cream of mushroom soup is famous. |

Great burgers. It was mentioned on The Sopranos once and it always seems like a place to run into Paulie and his crew. I like it and my kids love that famous mushroom soup. |

Good burgers, but the soup is only famous for being famous. It's nothing special. |

I tried it 10 years ago and never went back...I guess I am just not a Jersey girl. I did see an interesting photo of folks riding horses there in the 20's. Apparently it was a "destination" for trail rides in the reservation. |

I have been there recently for a dinner meeting and the prime ribs were excellent. So were the potatoes (I cannot remember what kind at the moment but I do know that they were good)... Traditional, American food that is well prepared is how I would describe Pals...and the bar makes a wicked cocktail! I have seen children there in past visits. |

Good burgers, good filet mignon. So so on the prime rib. Try the Williamsburg Sweets as a side dish. We eat there pretty regularly. Ate there last night. |

Kids are quite welcome. I've taken mine there and they enjoyed it. You must get the onion rings! |

I had dinner there tonight and I loved it, as always. There is a great western theme with oils of western landscapes and cowboy scenes, and good architecture, with stone work, etc. The food is always delicious. I had cajun halibut, and mashed sweet potatoes, and a salad with creamy blue cheese dressing. There is nothing wrong with the place, and no reason why you should not try it. Upstairs is a more formal dining room, but there is also a "grill room" area for more informal meals. I prefer the dining room. |

We've gone there mostly on weeknights, but we've never seen it close to needing a reservation. Mushroom soup isn't all that, but it's really good. They say they make it fresh every day to go, so you could always stop in the grill area in the front and get a container next time you pass by. We've tried a couple of things other than burgers, soup, and onion rings, and have sworn not to stray again. Although we've never tried the steaks, which i hear are good too. |

Friday & Saturday around 7:00pm you can expect to wait about 30 minutes for a table. Before 6:30 no wait. After 8:00 you might wait 10 minutes. |

My kids and I sit at the counter and order mushroom soup and burgers or hot dogs. I used to wait tables there back in the late 80's and it hasn't changed much. I've yet to have better mushroom soup anywhere else, and their burgers and hot dogs, IMHO, are the best in the area. They have great sandwiches and steaks as well. The service in the front of the restaurant is lacking--which is another reason why we sit at the counter. The kids love Pals and so do I. |

It's great on your first date with it. New to New Jersey and it's fun. Repeat visits just go downhill, except for the hasty lunch or quick burger, IMHO. |

I wondered if I'd catch some NYC chauvenism about steakhouses. My point was that it's nothing more than a steakhouse. If you want to say it's not even that, I won't argue. |

I'm a Jersey boy and I went there about 7 years ago and I don't have any plans to go back. Mediocre food -- at best. |

alleygater... aren't you a vegetarian? it hardly seems appropriate that you should be commenting on a "steakhouse"... especially one you went to 7 years ago. good place for a burger and a beer. haven't ventured further into the menu than that.

Ummmm... I am vegetarian, and there were things on the menu for me to eat (although I can't remember what they were since it was so long ago). I do ACTUALLY remember paying money for my food. I don't remember them giving me the food to me for free. So I feel like I have every right to have an opinion. If on the other hand it had a note on the menu for people saying, "Is this your first time coming here? If so you should know that this place has unbelievably attrocious food UNLESS you buy meat or mushroom soup" well then I could understand where you are coming from. Alas there was no helpful notes. Also of note, I went to Pals with TS and she was underwhelmed by the food also -- but once again I don't know if she bought a burger or steak. Does it matter that TS isn't vegetarian? I didn't bother to mention that I DO REMEMBER having a service issue there, I think it had to do with waiting a very long time for service AND the food. Also I remember thinking the food was overpriced for the lack of enjoyment I got out of it. But those sorts of issues seem irrelevant when the food is inedible. |
