I've noticed that our Trustees do not comment outside this thread. Posts in Soapbox, "Riot at the Maplewood Tennis Club" and "Last Night's TC meeting" talk about gang recruitment and activity in our schools. What is the Village's knowledge on this subject? What actions are we taking to address this problem?

SoOrLady: I don't even look at most of the other threads. I just don't have the time.

I will ask for the topic to be put on the next public safety agenda so I can find out from the police director what the village has done and if there has been a coordinated effort with other towns and the BOE.

I understand that there was another gang-related incident - this time near Seth Boyden school. Were you able to meet with the public safety people to see how S. Orange is addressing the issue of gangs in our towns?

So you're going to discuss this exactly one month from my first post. My understanding from posts on other threads is that Maplewood is already addressing this issue - town meetings are planned with the Maplewood Police Dept. Perhaps S. Orange could join in?

SoOrLady: The police director has already been acting on the problem and did have a discussion with the Maplewood Police. The public safety meeting is a chance for public input and for the committee members to discuss the issue. We also get a report from the police director as to what has been done and what can be done going forward.
There should not be an assumption just because a committee does not meet, that nothing was done or is being done. The public safety committee meets once a month (as do most of the committees).
