Tom, The issue at hand here is that is illegal to park in the SOMS parking lot unless an employee of the school district or a visiting parent/guardian, etc. It is not a commuter lot and therefore commuter's shouldn't be parking there. Additionally, since this particular commuter chose to park there he obviously doesn't have a permit to park in either the SO Village lots or the NJ Transit lot. Is that your question? |

I guess my question is, why do you care, if he doesn't prevent you from parking where you're entitled to park? Are you just sticking up for the staff at SOMS? Tom Reingold There is nothing

No, I'm sticking up for all us residents that either pay a fee to SO Village or to NJ Transit for the privilege of parking. Why should anyone get a 'free ride'. Frankly Tom, coming from you, I'm shocked by your question. JK, just a little 'prissy pants' humor! |

Thanks, but anyway, I think freedom, justice, and the American way are all very well and good, but mightn't you be asking for trouble sticking up for other folks? Tom Reingold There is nothing

Tom.. sticking up for other folks is a fundamental do-gooder obligation. Magnify the issue and ask yourself if you saw a woman being beaten up and it was in your power to do something to stop it, wouldn't you?? You dont strike me as an isolationist. How can you compare a possible parking infraction with a physical assult?????? This town, county and state drain so much money from us, if this person has been beating the system, more power to him. It's not like an insurance scam that causes insurance rates to increase...it has no impact on anyone else...except for the fact that he/she thought of it before us. |

ahhh the old victimless crime. And I didnt compare the two. I said MAGNIFY. More power to him huh? so we can pick and choose what laws apply to what people. Thats just selfish. You sound like one of those people who parks in the handicap spot when they are "just running in to mail this letter".

sylad, since you raise the point of the town, county and state draining so much money from us, I find it extradorinary that you too wouldn't be offended by someone taking advantage of the situation. Maybe you're parking there also or know others who may be. I'll stand by my right to report an infraction and I frankly don't care whether you like it or not! Tom, Your position on this shocks me, based on many of the other posts you've made on line here. |

VG, Lighten up, dude. We're not talking about invading another country in search of nonexistent WMD. It's a parking spot. Why are you so negative? |

mhd, it's just the principle, I hate people trying to get over on something. Where do I come off as negative, that is not my intention. My intent is only that this person, and Im sure others, are taking advantage of the situation. Wasashore will love to see you refer to me as 'negative' |

Whatever you decide to do report him/her or talk to him/her just let us all know. I am curious to find out the story. I never said not to report him/her, I just suggested that you approach him/her first. |

Sorry for sounding harsh. Actually, I'm not sure I wouldn't report it. I'm not sure I would, either. I have done stuff like parking illegally, but only once or twice, never consistently. I certainly would be angry at the guy, as you are, but I'm just not sure what I would do about it. What is doing is wrong and unfair, but if it didn't affect me directly, I'd ask myself if I should complain about something that doesn't hurt me directly. In general, taking "proxy offense" isn't that strong an argument, but I guess it is valid. Tom Reingold There is nothing

What about the Holocaust, Slavery or any other the other miriade ills that effect society? I'm not comparing the Holocaust to illegal parking, but..where do you start comparing? That is exactly why I and others have been so vocal here about what we see wrong about our town. The impact of the quarry development, the lack of progress & misinformation on the Shop Rite, Beifus and SOPAC projects, the extraneous discretionary spending of our tax dollars etc, etc. However, people like Nancy & VG feel THOSE issues shouldn't be criticised, but one person who parks illegally should be. (no...it's not me or anyone I know parking there) Odd sense of priorities. |

I would think the way to deal with this issue is to ask the Parking Authority workers to note the license plate # and inquire with the school to determine if the person who parked there is an employee of the school. Or maybe the parking authority is too busy having two workers at the Shop Rite parking lot chatting away every morning. |

Okay Mayhew... The impact of the quarry development, the lack of progress & misinformation on the Shop Rite, Beifus and SOPAC projects, the extraneous discretionary spending of our tax dollars etc, etc. Which of these things are illegal?.. Amazing how EVERYTHING posted is always about you and your problems with the quarry. Somehow everything is related no matter how spurious ..parking at SOMS, I noticed your reponse to NCJanow with her posting about leaking windows..Boy are you boring.. (and nasty too!)

mayhewdrive, I never said that Shop Rite, Beifus or SOPAC shouldn't be criticized, in fact they should be. I'm as frustrated about the delays and excuses as are most folks, maybe I just chose to let those more knowledgable on the issues express their concrens. Frankly, I think you folks have been very vocal, in an informative way, bringing to light many of the concerns about these issues. |

Right, NJC, the question "where do we draw the line?" is key. There is no easy answer. If a mother wipes her kid's nose in public and it embarrasses the kid, the kid is wronged, yet we wouldn't intervene. (I chose a trite example on purpose.) If people are murdered because of their ethnicity, we intervene. We start somewhere in the middle. Where? Heck, I don't know. I think the parking violation is obviously on one side of the line for some and on the other for others. Tom Reingold There is nothing

OK, OK, OK ....This conversation has gone just a bit to far for moi!!! The Top 4 Reason why you should not park in the SOMS Parking Lot ... Reason #1: There is limited parking for teachers and administration. These employees of the school should be able to park their cars in the designated lot and walk to their job. Reason #2: Subs, parent-volunteers, visiting administrators, parents picking up sick children should not have to park three blocks away! Reason #3: If we allow a few (lazy/cheap) people to abuse the system, the town will be forced to develop a parking-pass system that is just one additional administrative hassle. Reason #4: IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!! }

No, it's the Board of Education! I understand that the town has volunteered to assist but their offer has been rejected. |
