I would not go as far as to say the bartenders are idiots but I would agree that they are painfully slow in serving their customers and get very flustered when faced with an order for more than 2 drinks. My guess would be that most of them have very little or no experience in barwork. |

I have spring break next week. I am getting my masters degree in May from New York University and I am NOT in a sorority. I am obviously not an idiot. |

Well you covered the joke...but what about questioning your statement regarding "We are actually all in either graduate school or law school."...Maybe you should have qualified that with MOST OF US ARE...or I AM... Because I know for a fact( and I wouldn't post someones name or other identifiers on this site but) the two I know from my building are not in grad school and are just barely old enough to drink themselves...UNLESS THEY LEFT IN THE PAST MONTH AND NOW ALL THE BARMAIDS ARE GRAD/LAW STUDENTS. |

Not fair. I was there last night. Mary and the staff are very professional and personable. I think there are some challenges with the current ownership, but they are doing the best they can. |

so are they following some sort of plight...Should we commission the next Zach Braff film....THE PASSION OF SOUTH ORANGE GRILLE BARMAIDS???? Honestly...I think professionalism in bartending is as simple as NOT SPILLING DRINKS ON THE CUSTOMERS and KEEPING THE BAR DRY...oh and be on top of those peanuts and ashtrays. SPARE ME! |

M.Scott you clearly know NOTHING about what is involved in the day to day running of a bar, let me assure you it goes far beyond not spilling drinks, keeping the bar dry and making sure there are enough peanuts and ashtrays around! |

Villageidiot (M.Scott), by your other postings I can clearly see you are out to belittle people. I have humored you long enough and do not intend to respond anymore to your asinine comments. Your hatred for the Grille was noted a long time ago. Brian- Thank you for your kind words I am pleased to see that you had a good time. |

is there such thing as a bar trade....I was refering to bartending and barmaids...yes I think a business has a lot more too it...but as for bartenders and barmaids... keeping the floor not sticky is probably the biggest challenge to the night or those fruity girl drinks are a tough make sometimes I hear. |

Have you ever worked behind a bar m.scott? The ignorant way in which you speak of barworkers would lead me to believe you would most likely be the kind that leaves a $2 tip after spending the night drinking ! |

maybe M.Scott could bartend for a night at the SO Grille. Similar to Mark Cuban and the Dairy Queen challenge. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/news/2002/01/10/dairy_queen_ap/

Sounds to me like the Bartenders blew M.Scott off and now he’s trying to get back. M.Scott don’t hit on the bartenders and maybe they’ll treat you better

Quick response to all three posts: Actually I tip pretty good, but I cannot say I have entered the grille since it was an SHU/Columbia HS hangout when it first opened. Not interested or entertained to bother at this point...No my wife doesn't allow me to hit on the barmaids...and I would love to bartend for a night, but not at that bar...Unfortantaly my job with a federal agency does not allow me to serve alcohol or work in a licensed establishment...but It could have been fun for one night. And yes I am iggnorant of bartending because I don't work in bar and had no interest to in college...Like anyjob...its learnable...I don't think there is any special gift like being a professional athlete or any substantial life risk like being a police officer or fireman that would bring bartender to a level of such... ITS A JOB...Lets not make it onto something more then that. Until I see the SOuth Orange Grille represented on the bartending competitions on ESPN 2 then we can talk about it being something more...until then....its a J.O.B. and anyone who can poor a drink, look cute in a tight shirt, and can remember or read a drink recipe can do that job. |

M.Scott, your quotes: "its a job" ... "like anyjob...its learnable". what's missing here is: "like most jobs its respectable". your posts above show that you have a problem respecting this specific job (or is it any other job that is not in a federal agency?). i suggest that you discuss your problem with your shrink, not here. spare us your hostility toward bartenders. mixing a good drink is an art, keeping the countertop and the floor clean is discipline, serving people is humility, doing the job is need. i doubt that your job in a federal agency encompasses all that. |
