I'm trying to determine if there is enough interest in Maplewood for a needleworkers group. Something casual for people who knit, cross stitch, crochet, and any other kind of lap work done with needles. Who's out there and would you like to meet others like yourself? This would meet at Main Library on Baker Street once a month. Day or evening best? Would you like speakers once in awhile? A special group project or fund raiser for charity? What do you think? R

I do needlepoint and I would love to join such a group. Evenings would be best for me since I work full time.

I'd be interested in a joining a group, I'm a knitter (trying to be). I learned how to knit last winter, and haven't gotten much further than the scarf.
As far as charity knitting, I've read about many different projects....for knitting, crocheting, and sewing. The possibilities are really endless.

Great! Please also ask around in person, we need at least 8-10 to form a group. I'll privateline you with my work email so you can contact me. We'll probably have an organizational meeting in Jan to chose a night and time. Thanks, R

Count me in. I'm a "lapsed" knitter who starts projects but fails to follow through.
I would love a group in the evening cause I work during the day.

I'm a knitter who would probably participate. Evenings would be best for me.

This sounds great! Evenings are the only time this knitter / cross-stitcher / would-be crocheter could go.

Someone who subscribes to the Knit List should post an inquiry there about how to organize such a groupo. As I recall, it's a very responsive list, nad I'm sure people would have great suggestions. (I would do it, but I just don't have the time these days.)

Hi, I'm a cross-stitcher. I work full-time (for now) and have an infant but would love to try to join you.

I like the speakers idea; not sure about charity project (have enough trouble getting my own done) but I've worked on a group quilt before that raised money for a good cause.

Okay, we have a group. The Nifty Needlers will have a formative meeting Monday, January 5 at 7:30PM. All who do needlework are welcome. This includes KNITTERS as well as people who cross-stitch, crochet, lapquilt, tat, you get the idea. This group is sponsored by Maplewood Library so has no fees attached. We may or may not have speakers, depends on what you want. Join now to make this group yours. You can reply to adultprograms@maplewoodlibrary.org Thanks, R

Becky:

Thank you so much for a great 1st session. Turn out was terrific and the variety of needlework skills possessed by those in attendance was great.

Looking forward to the next session: 2nd Monday night in February at 7:30 PM at the Main Library when we will all get a chance to see the kind of needlework projects people in the group have been doing.

This was an organization meeting. Mostly we introduced ourselves, spoke about the kinds of needlework projects we like to do, and made suggestions for topics/activities for future meetings. There was strong support for mutual help sessions where people who had reached a stumbling block with a needlework project could get help from a more experienced person in that craft, development of a group project for a good cause, sharing/exchange of patterns and kits, sharing of resource and exhibit information etc.

The next meeting will be an extension of the getting to know you theme. Those attending have been asked to bring in a project they have completed/are still working on and tell the rest of the group about it.

Becky is definitely looking for additional members. Please contact her if you are interested.
