I recently ordered a book called "We got Steam" from www.heatinghelp.com. This book has taught me so much about my system in such a short time. It narrates and illustrates the way steam furnaces work, the do's and dont's and how to make steam systems run more efficiently. The book has answered all my questions in simple terms with a little humor thrown in. I have already made some minor adjustments per the authors recommendations and my system seems to be running better than ever. The book is only $20.00. Anyone who has a steam heat system should own this book. I highly recommend it. |

I also recommend that book, NRL. I think, for a homeowner, it is a far better book than the author’s first, "The Lost Art of Steam Heating", which tends to confuse some people. Dan and I went out for dinner a couple of weeks ago and his wife gave me the book (actually, I won it in a coin toss) but it is worth every bit of twenty dollars and more. I can’t say enough good things about him and his books. And that’s not only because he sends me lots of customers! Mr. Holohan is not an engineer but he is probably the most qualified person in the industry when talking about steam heating. Keep in mind there is a lot more to the subject besides the simple one-pipe systems we commonly use in our homes.

Master P, I agree. "We got Steam" is a perfect balance for the average homeowner. I cant say enough how much this book has helped me. Not too mention, I got my free wrench pen and million dollar bill bookmark. I feel like I am in the club now.....sort of.

I just got this book and it is an AMAZING wealth of information. Would recommend it to ANYONE with a steam heating system. It may not help you fix it, but it helps you know when something is definately wrong. I couldn't find it in a bookstore, probably cause it's sort of niche-market, but I didn't think the shipping was bad and it came VERY fast after I ordered it. Thats what I like about it also. Its not a tech manual, but it certainly tells you what to look for, what to listen for and what should be there that may not be. My system has never run better...
