As in years past, Santa's making his trek to Bunny's Annual Christmas Party. It is a holiday celebration of huge proportions. An all day FREE Buffet (12:00 noon to 8:00 pm) to allow you to sample all the menu items we regularly offer. Santa will make a special appearance from 5:00pm -6:30pm. This year's feast will be on Thursday, December 18th. Bring your family, friends and neighbors, we welcome all to this holiday celebration. |

We received word from NORAD that they have spotted Santa's departure from the North Pole. We continue to expect his time of arrival to Bunny's at 5:00pm, today. |

Good thing Santa's over twenty-one. A couple of twenty-year-old South Orange college kids home on break wanted to enjoy the buffet and a couple of Cokes at Bunny's this evening, but they got the boot. Not welcome. No room at the inn... Lotsa Christmas spirit(s) flowing at "The Home Of The Upscale Pizza Crowd", but only if you belly up for shots or beer, huh? Pretty lame. Which, BTW, also describes those "menu items" laid out for that "free" buffet... But I guess if you drink enough, even that stuff starts to look good. Now, grabbing some free advertising on an MOL thread may not embarrass the folks at Bunny's, but maybe they should be a wee bit ashamed of treating anyone so shabbily. Or maybe they just don't know where Santa really is... Look for him in your heart. Tis The Season. Oh well, it's only once a year, anyhow... |

I thought it was a cute idea to go see Santa with my kids. The scene was not quite family-friendly though. (All that smoke and at one point my husband realized if some drunk idiot knocked into the buffet table with all those sternos we'd be in serious trouble.) $3 for bottled water (my kids don't drink soda). It was a nice thought on the part of Bunny's and I didn't think the food was bad. It wasn't really necessary to post it on MOL though...seemed like the place was full of "regulars" happy to be able to eat for free while they spent their money on beer. The Halloween lollipops for the kids will get tossed though. |

This is a note to "Scotchn". Most of us who read these posts are more acquainted with her husband "Soda." Get it? Scotch n'Soda. That must have been their song when they were, shall we say "courtin." By chance, I happened to be enjoying the FREE buffet at Bunny's at the same time that Soda was there. The food was abundant and it was excellent and it was extremely generous of the owner to lavish such a buffet for free to thank the customers. Soda went to the buffet no less than three times and filled his plate and ate every bite. So......I think it is rude and unfair to post anything negative about the host establishment. Any just in case you don't get it, if the food is FREE, is it too much to expect to pay for a beverage? You call this treating someone "shabbily"? I think it was extremely generous to invite the public via this post on MOL. That is how I learned about it. And so did Soda. I left a very large tip for the wait staff. How about you, Scotchn'? |

Not to put down Bunny's for offering free food at the Holidays but: 1. If the College Kids were gonna pay for their COKES..dosn't that count as a "Beverage" to Mr. Lamppost? Would it been better for the under 21's to order a "Scotch" and have it served illegally? 2. If it was for regulars only, why publicize on MOL? As "lamppost" has pointed out, I enjoy a free meal as much as the next guy. And a $2.75 lite beer, some ziti, chicken parm, salad, cold cuts, two skinny slices of lukewarm pizza, and a couple of "Happy Holidays" to local acquaintances (which is about all anybody should expect from Bunny's yearly holiday promotion) is an okay deal. I even found an empty (free!) parking spot right in front of the place. However, I think it's interesting that "pizzaz" (the Bunny's owner trying to drum up business with free MOL advertising) has posted no response (neither a denial nor an apology) for what I, too consider rather shabby treatment of those kids. As I read it, they were there to eat some free food and drink a couple of (non-free) soft drinks. They were thrown out solely because they were under legal "drinking age". Now, the "invitation" said nothing about age limitations, and was definitely a "come one, come all" offer, so why were two college kids denied access? Don't you think that constitutes "rude and unfair" treatment? I sure do. Whoever "Scotchn" may or may not be, he/she was on the money. How about it, "pizzaz"? --Soda BTW: Why were Santa and Rudolph late? Were they indulging in some "Holiday Cheer" at other bars before making an appearance at Bunny's?

Some people are so mean spirited. Bunny did a nice thing, a good thing for the people of this town. Some of you went to Bunny's, and ate, and seemed to have a good time, yet can't seem to refrain from vituperative criticism. I wasn't there, but I have been a frequent patron of Bunny's, and have always found her to be a kind, warm-hearted person. Maybe next year you should stay home. |

Allow me to add some historical perspective to this discussion. Previous posts have made it clear that Bunny's does make a profit from its sale of soda. Therefore, it makes little sense to insinuate that the owners wanted only drinkers at the Christmas party for the purpose of making money. The truth is that the 20 year olds were there at a very busy time, when, BTW, the offerings included much more than luke warm pizza and ziti. The owner works very hard to preclude underage drinking in her establishment and has a great reputation in this regard. The 20 year olds were there at a time when she was very busy and felt more comfortable protecting her reputation than making money on soda sales. I can assure you that if they were there when I was there, and when Soda was there, and the full dinner offerings were unfortunately not yet out, the situation would not have happened. And I was satisified with the $4 YL pints and chicken parm. Thanks Bunnys! |

Unbelievable. Soda can only spew criticism of Bunny's throughout the year, but then partakes of the (delicious) free Christmas offerings -- and then has the nerve to complain about it!! Wow! And I agree with Deacon Blues - Bunny's is diligent in their determination not to serve the underage (or the over-imbibed), unlike other watering holes frequented by Guesswho Trustees. ** This post has been edited to fix a spelling error ** * ** *** **** We can't handle the truth, because if you handed us the truth, we'd hand you over to the authorities! |

Dave, I NEVER, ever imbibe, ever. My medical condition precludes imbibing anything stronger than ginger ale and I am furious at Bets suggestion that I ever ever drink anywhere. I am NOT who she thinks I am, and if I wanted to blow my cover, believe me, a lawsuit might well be pending. |

Dave: Allow me to further display my mean spirit and balls of steel by inserting some actual historical fact here: *Pizzaz used YOUR gratis webspace for false advertising("We welcome all..."), then never even inquired whether the two students were about to order liquor or not. She simply informed them that they were to leave. *Pizzaz, despite what some posters may believe, is not, and has never been, "Bunny". "Bunny", as I understand it, was the nickname used by her mother-in-law. *Santa never showed up at Bunny's on Thursday. The very same Oracle of MOL who allegedly passed your name on to Bacchus (he doesn't actually remember doing so, but he'll give you the benefit of the doubt as a courtesy of The Season) has assured me that(a) Mr. Claus (and his lovely wife Vera as well, if you must know) has for the last century or so been a tea-totaller, and thus would under absolutely no circumstances patronize or promote an establishment such as Bunny's, and (2) Things are way too hectic up at the North Pole this week for Santa to consider cutting out for some R&R, let alone some crass commercial gig. *Therefore, I can only conclude that the much-touted personage in the red suit at Bunny's on Thursday was just some guy from the neighborhood. (Sorry, kiddies. There IS a Santa Claus. He just doesn't show up at bars, supermarkets, department stores, or dry cleaners.) *Enjoy the hooch, Dave. --Soda BTW: If those two kids were on four-day leave from the service and had shown up in dress uniform, I'll betcha they'd have been offered the full buffet, plus maybe a beverage on the house. Even though they're only twenty years old... Thus will end my last comment on this thread. |

Okay, I won't call Soda a presumptive old gasbag. I'll just allude to the fact that he might well be called that in some circles. Luckily, since he won't be commenting again on this thread, he won't even know I said that. Right? (Though we may very well hear from "Scotchn". How utterly unclever.) Is it only me that finds it so distasteful that a poster bad-mouths a long-time village establishment every chance he gets, but then shovels down three (that's THREE) platefuls of food when they host their annual Christmas party? The food was awful and the portions way too small, right? It must be that some of Scotchn'Soda's friends are patrons of Bunny's, and he couldn't resist a snootful as well as a snoutful for a whalloping $2.75. To infer that Bunny (who is most certainly not Pizzaz, and is also most certainly entitled to the nickname bestowed upon her by the many, many happy patrons of "Bunny's Ristorante" [like, Duh?]) unfairly promoted her business by advertising 8 hours of free food open to surrounding communities, and then denied service to 2 or 3 college kids is ludicrous!!! It may well have been the height of the festivities when it was just too crowded to ensure they wouldn't imbibe; it may very well have been some kids that have tried to drink there previously. For Scotchn'Soda to party hardy and then denigrate the place proves he was wise to decry his Oracle-ness. Maybe "orifice" is a better term? Usually, I find some of Soda Pop's posts to be entertaining when they aren't attacking 80-plus-year-old village establishments that haven't been run out of town by his beloved current Board of Trustees. But this is just petty and ugly. Oh, and as an aunt of a Marine just back from the mid-East, I can only assume Soda meant his postscript for me. Isn't it slander to suggest that someone would break the law if they could, or is it libel? I always get them confused. Too bad Guesswho isn't around to provide some Counsel, eh? * ** *** **** We can't handle the truth, because if you handed us the truth, we'd hand you over to the authorities! |

Soda - Santa's wife's name if Jessica (reference: The Year Without A Santa Claus) And - turning away underage folk has always been Bunny's policy (unless they're with a parent). Years ago my 20 year old daughter went to Bunny's with her 23 year old boyfriend. They ordered a pizza and a beer for him & soda for her - she wasn't 21 so they were asked to leave. Were they fearful that she'd reach across the table and gulp down his beer? Was it reasonable? I didn't think so at the time. But - the owner gets to set the rules - and I'll bet they've never been busted for serving underage drinkers - unlike other establishments in town. The bottom line is that they did a nice thing in the spirit of the season. As far as your complaint about free advertising.. who doesn't know Bunny's and that it's the place to go for the best bar pie?

You people have to be insane to rip on Bunny. She went out of her way to provide good food for free to residents in the area and you people have the audacity to be critical? Her profits on soda are higher than on beer, so to think or claim she told these two individuals to leave based on money makes no sense. So it comes down to her fear that these two underage individuals might try to drink in her establishment. Bunny felt there was a chance they might try to procure alcohol and worried about the ramifications. Considering the problems of South Orange Grill, her fears were reasonable. Anyway, some of you are always trying to make the worst of something good. It's not even a question of seeing the glass half empty or half full--some of you don't even see the glass.
