I was perusing the minutes that are posted online when I came across this gem from Sept. 8, 2003:
"3. The next meeting of the Library, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Committee to be announced.
At this time, Trustee Theroux requested permission from the Village President to make a personal remark to address an issue that came to her attention over the weekend. She commented as follows:
“I’m sure that everyone in this room knows that misuse of government property is a very serious charge, and over the weekend apparently on Maplewood Online, I was accused of misusing government property. Specifically, I was accused of operating a Village owned Durango. This allegation was made by an individual on Maplewood Online who uses the screen name ‘bets’. I hope she’s watching this evening. I know her real name. I’m not going to repeat it her tonight. I didn’t see the e-mail but from my understanding of what it said, it contained very specific information about where and when I was allegedly driving this vehicle. The interesting thing is that it’s completely, absolutely, patently untrue. And I’m particularly concerned about that because accusing someone of misusing public property is a very, very serious charge. And in light of the fact that it is that serious an allegation that’s made against somebody, it’s nothing more than a personal attack. I’ve been accused of taking bribes on Maplewood Online. I’ve been accused of all sorts of horrific things on Maplewood Online. But when someone comes on and makes a very, very specific allegation as to time and place of my doing something that, if in fact I had done it, is absolutely improper. I think there comes a time when you just can’t constantly sit back and ignore it and say well, it will go away. It’s my understanding the Village Counsel has the e-mail of the person who is known to Maplewood Online users and lurkers as ‘bets’. And I would just ask that Village Counsel please be so kind as to send that person an e-mail and I hope as I say she’s watching tonight so I can say it to her personally that it’s always a good idea to be very, very certain of facts before you make baseless allegations about people and call their character into question. And that’s all I have to say on that. By the way, before I leave that topic, does anybody on this Board, anybody here, have any questions about whether or not I may have misused government property or behaved inappropriately. Is there a question on anybody on this Board’s mind?” Village President Calabrese responded, “No, if you tell me you didn’t, you didn’t.” Trustee Theroux replied, “Thank you. I appreciate that.”"
I'm sorry to say that I wasn't watching, and I haven't received an email from Village Counsel. And I still stand behind what I saw and reported, so I'm certain of the facts.

Duncan, this is my real name. It's what I answer to. I'm sure you've figured out the rest of my name by her clumsy edit above. And methinks Trustee Guesswho made a wee bit bigger deal of the situation that it warranted.
But whatever. At least I answered my question!

Don't bets the house on your outing, Ms. Bets. Check some of my postings, don't believe, (in fact it's public info) that the Trustee you so lovingly refer to as SM has or had any kids in the district.
