Please help! I'm wondering if anybody can give me a recommendation of somebody to fix our Yankee gutters. The 2 gutters in the back of the house have very small outlets, which cause the gutters to over flow when there is a heavy rain (like now). This happens whether the gutters are clean or not. I have contacted two separate roofers who said that they would do the work but have yet to show up and do anything. |

It sounds like your referring to curb gutters if you can clean them? A Yankee gutter is sealed. Is the soffit leaking and/or bulging in any area? Yankee gutters are not easily "repaired". We've repaired only a few because they will leak again. Worse case is if they've been repaired again and again in the past and have layers of tar and rolled roofing material weighing down the already failing structure it will require a big decision on your part. Eliminate them or reconstruct them. I'll be honest.... Reconstruction is not cheap. Not even close. I can forward you pics of some newly constructed Yankee gutters we built for several homes in S.O and Maplewood if you wish. NOTE: For your own good, please be sure the person you decide to hire knows what their doing. Yankee gutters is a delicate lost art. Michael K. Mc Kell

Just curious. What is a "Yankee gutter"? Thanks, TomR. |

Homes built at the begining of the 20th century or ealier were equippet with a built-in or "Yankee Gutters". These systems were discretely built into the roof and cornice system, unlike conspicuous hung gutters. The structure itself is built and interior is lined ice and weather shield and hand bent to fit 8' 20 ounce copper with hand soldered seams. Michael K. Mc Kell
