My son is 6 1/2 months old but is already about 27 inches long, so we recently stopped using the little snug ride carrier and switched over to the convertible seat, rear-facing of course. I know the rule is after 26 or 27 inches they should go to the bigger seat, but he fits better in the snug carrier. The new one doesn't recline to the proper angle (I have it reclining as far as it will go) and his feet drape over the end of it anyway. Can anyone help me with this? Is there really any harm in continuing to use the snug ride a little longer since he seems to fit better in it (changing to front facing after a year, of course)?

Dave - why don't you call the car seat manufacturer or go to the fire department and ask - I think they give little lessons on how to properly install car seats.

This is one of those situations where an expert's recommendation is the best way to go.

Fold some towels under either the front or back to adjust the angle. I also heartily recommend the Mighty-Tite - Car Seat Belt Tightener to get the seat belt right.

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on calling the manufacturer and the U.S. safety regulators on Monday, and I will take it to the car dealer who helped me install the previous seat. I just thought someone may have real-world experience with this.

They make a wedge and sell it at the baby store, so you can get the right angle with the rear facing larger car seats.

Westfield has a car seat inspection at the police station on Wednesday and Thursday mornings (7am to 11am I think). We go there every time we have a new carseat to install or if we need an adjustment. They are great and FREE.
