Well, here's a heads up to folks like me, of a certain age, who become nostalgic for the music of their youth at New Years, especially with a few glasses of champagne...

Browsing in Borders today I came across a digital remastered version of the original "South Pacific", with Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza. Apparently it's a few years old but I had never seen it. From Columbia, Broadway Masterworks. It's marvelous. The overture, the orchestration. Imagine being a low brow Irish Catholic kid, as I was, in the 50's, in suburban Massachusetts, and hearing that, and having the world open up.
