I received e-mail from Comcast on 12/22 saying that they were doubling my download speed. From various speedtests I've done over the years, my speed has been about 1.5 Mbs. Since the change, it has only gone to 1.6 Mbs. Has anyone else had a different experience? I'd love to get the 3.0 Mbs that some Cablevision customers in NJ apparently get (according to DSLreports, I think). |

My verizon connection has always said "Connected at 10 Mbs" I tested and I think it's more like 2.5. For the last three days it's said "Connected at 400 Mbs". Now that's my kind of speed, to bad it's not true. |

ajc, what did you download? They said all you need to do is unplug your modem and reconnect it. Timg - what do you use to test the speed? |

You can test your connection's speed at http://phl.speakeasy.net/. Do it a few times over the course of a few days. You might get an automatic upgrade if you unplug and replug the power on your cable modem. My colleagues are reporting speeds of 3 Mb! That's pretty amazing, and the rate they charge you is not going up. Of course, that's just a peak rate, but it will affect your average rate somewhat. And before you ask, no similar upgrades are happening with DSL. Tom Reingold There is nothing

Actually, Speakeasy.net recently announced gratis upgrades to all their ADSL customers because of equipment upgrades. Sometime in January my service is supposed to go from 1.5Mbps down/384K up to 1.5Mbps down/768K up, which is nice since I do run servers. If I had a plan with a slower downstream speed I probably would have seen that speed increase too. |

timg, thanks for starting this thread. I never even read the message from Comcast -- thought it was an ad. So after reading your post, I unplugged my modem, and the difference in speed after I plugged back in was really noticeable. Did the Speakeasy test, and I'm now downloading at over 3 Mbps. cool! |

OK all you computer geeks, I tested my Comcast connection and the download speed is 2332 KBPS which seems fairly good, especially with my three year old Dell pos 'puter. However, the upload speed is only 112 KBPS. Since I don't do a lot of uploads I never noticed. Is this OK or should I bug Comcast? This thread kinda reminds me of first grade and"mine is bigger than yours". |

Interesting, I just tested it using Explorer instead of AOL and the download speed moves to 3102 KBPS and the upload to 312. I guess that AOL may slow things down and maybe my neighbor signed off, since my understanding is that cable modem speed is effected by the number of users in a neighborhood. Please don't let me become obssesed with this!! |
