I am looking for a really good OB-GYN who is experienced with high risk pregnancies, doesn't keep you waiting 2 hours, and is humane and doesn't treat you like the next woman in line. We are finally pregnant again after trying to conceive for 3 years, suffering 2 mc's and 2 years of fertility tx. I will be delivering (hopefully) at the youthful age of 43. Any info and recommendations would be most appreciated. Thanks! |

Try the high risk guys at St. Barnabas..Ed Wolfe, Leon Smith and Richard Miller, I also think Deb Warren is there. They are not the friendliest guys but they warm up once you get to know them. They are very matter of fact but used to dealing with every problem imaginable. I used them in conjunction with Joann Somers who is an obgyn just down the road from St. Barnabas. Good luck. |

Ob, you will have to be referred to them by a regular ob gyn...I can recommend Joann, she saw me through some horrendous times and a blessed time. Others have complained about the wait but it has gotten better. She has dealt with a lot of high risk patients over the years and works well with the guys at the barnabas maternal fetal unit. I know other people here have highly recommended Tammy Hamilton. |

Definitely check out west essex ob/gyn. (973-740-1330) Five partners (three are women) and they are all extraordinary. I have endured two high risk pregnancies and deliveries with them in conjunction with the NJ Perinatal group at St. Barnabas (you grow to adore them when you see them every week for the better part of your pregnancy!). I could not have been more satisfied with the care they gave me and they have practically become like family (I want to have more babies just to be treated by them again!). Good luck with your pregnancy! |

Frisoli is good but the wait in his office sucks. I went once a month for ultrasounds and had to wait at least 1.5 hours each time. Plus I didn't think his "bedside manner" was that great. He was just my high-risk ultrasound guy though...my main OB was Dr. Whalen with Summit Med Group in SH and I was very happy with her. |

I used a high risk Dr named David Hollander who is associated with St Barnabas. The only reason I left was he stopped taking Eatna insurance. His office is just up the road from the hospital, on the corner of Northfield Ave and Short Hills Road. He is part of a group but the name has changed since I had my son 9 years ago and I don't know what the practice is called now. He has at least one woman in the practice but I always preffered having Dr Hollander--nice bed side manner friendly and humerous, but serious when something is wrong or you're in pain. My son was healthy and Dr. Hollander really was attentive to me while I recovered. He was referred to me by a woman DR who practices at St. Barnabas, and he was her Dr when she was trying to concieve--she has since delivered a beautiful baby girl. |

I highly recommend Dr. Vivian Chou. She is in Madison- just past the Chatham border on Main Street. I used to go to Dr. Somers' practice- incredibly long waits, always felt rushed through appointments, and really didn't feel I got the best care. Very happy I switched! |

Thank you all so much for the valuable information and recommendations. I've made a couple of appts though both doctors seems to deliver at ST. B's which I was actually hoping to avoid after hearing not such great delivery experiences with them. Any thoughts? BTW, I went to Dr. Vivian Chou during my first pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage. My experience with her was awful (and not simply because of the tragic outcome). I found her to be unavailable, cold and dismissive. I imagine she deals with pregnancies better then mc's as I have heard other people liked her. |

I have delivered both of my children at St. B's and could not have had a better experience. The L&D nurses are great as are the residents. The birthing rooms were quite large and really nice, in my opinion. I ended up with a c-section both times and the care was excellent (partly because of my docs, of course). Post partum is great too. Only note is that they do like to take the babies overnight but will bring them to you for on demand breastfeeding. I actually liked that as I was able to get some sleep between feedings which I do not think I would have had they been right next to me all night. Frankly, with a high risk pregnancy or delivery, there is no other hospital in the area I would want to deliver at. Good luck! |
