Expecting in April and need to find daycare for my baby once I go back to work. How much is daycare on a weekly basis? Also, any daycare options anyone can recommend in the Maplewood area? Thank you. |

We use Discovery (Valley St) for our 3 year old and are adding our infant 3 days a week later this month. The cost for infant care is $180/3 days. I think full time is $260 or so, but don't quote me. Infant care is the most expensive - the cost goes down considerably after age 2. Our 3yo costs $127.50 for 3 days. |

CONGRATS and I hope you are progressing well!! At the Y on Parker an infant is about 1000 bucks a month, perhaps a little more by now. My 3 yr old is 845/month for 4 days a week. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" Wayne Gretzky

I believe we pay $1,240 a month for our 2 year old for 5 days a week at the Y on Parker. They seem to increase the amount every year so the price for a "waddler" for 2003-4 is what we paid last year for an "infant" there. |

hmmm. Havent noticed that Chalmers. Our son has been 4 days a week and is in his third year of that schedule and the cost has gone down each year. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" Wayne Gretzky

For those of you with kids at the Y on Palmer, are you happy with their care? |

You mean Parker, right? Love it. My son is happy, healthy, smart and social. He loves the teachers and they love him. It is working extremely well for us. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" Wayne Gretzky

My son will be 5 in June and has been at the Y since 3 months. We have been very happy there. From what I see there is very low staff turnover, I would guess almost all the teachers know my son. He had the same two head teachers for the first 3 years and they were the best. When he moved to preschool I was so sad to leave them but now they have a whole new room of kids and my son and I love to go and visit. Moving up into preschool was tough but the teachers are great and again, no turnover in our classroom. Also, we have taken advantage of the classes offered at the Y -- favorites have been Gym Games, Sports, and Math Blast. |

We have two kids in the Y (one the same age as Duncan's and the other the same age as Algebra's). We have also been very happy. The option to take classes is also great, my son is totaly into gymnastics now. One bit of advice, its never to early to call Marie and get your name on the list. |

We are very happy with Superkids on Broad St in Summit (next to the ShopRite on 124). It is independently owned and we feel that makes a difference. The owners are great and are there all the time. When we were investigating day care centers, Superkids was less expensive than the Y. |

The Y has a waiting list. I have an infant and a 3 year old there and both are very happy! Probably a good idea to start visiting and getting on any free waiting lists (the Y is free, some charge a non-refundable deposit) while you make your decision. Summer is a good time to start as there are fewer kids (camp, vacation, etc). |

Quality of care at the Y is very good, as is seen by their waiting list. Y director Marie Lachanski said tuition usually goes up 3% a year. Using the 2003-4 rates as an example, parents of an infant paying $1,245/mo this year can expect their waddler tuition of $1,205 to be around $1,241 for 2004-5 starting in September. |

Newneighbor, Superkids currently costs $1213/mo for an infant for five days per week. The older the kid, the lower the cost as the number of kids per teacher increases. Another reason we chose Superkids over the Y is that the Y had a waiting list for non-September entry. Superkids has over 150 kids now, so they might be starting waiting lists for July, Jim, but they did not when our kid started. Call Bridget or Carol at 908-598-8383 to ask or to arrange for one of them to be there when you tour. |
