Netherwood is (or was) a stop on the Raritan Valley Line of NJ Transit. Small station stop, sort of like Mountain Station in SO.

It's not a very nice section of Plainfiled, NJ. It wasn't nice when I grew up there as a kid, and it's gone way down hill from there.

There was an article in a very recent issue of the Star-Ledger about the Sleepy Hollow secton of Plainfield. Sounds sort of interesting.

Might I suggest that you visit Netherwood before you take someone elses opinion on it. Plainfield has recieved a bad rap due to the riots back in the 70's or 80's? Its come a long way since then. The houses are gorgeous, mostly Victorians, Tudors and Colonials. Its an up and coming neighborhood just as Maplewood was five or six years ago. Also, property taxes are much more in line with the housing prices. However, in all honesty, the school system is nothing to brag about. We just moved here from Maplewood and although we loved Maplewood, we are happy with our decision.

But for people who commute via train to NY Penn Station, the Raritan Valley line is terrible. It would take at least 1 hour to get to NY Penn Station. I would bet that many times it would take longer because you have to switch trains in Newark Penn Station -- and those connecting trains aren't guaranteed. Many times, the Raritan Valley trains are held at stop signals for long periods of time for Conrail freight trains to pass (which can cause those missed connections).

Once you get to Newark Penn, there is a Path train which is probably a bit more reliable if it takes you where you want to go.

I actually looked in plaifield before I bought here. There is a bad section, but Netherwood Heights and Sleepy Hollow were very impr3essive. I agree with the above posters that that hehouse a rebeautiful and well cared for and that it is an up and coming area. One of the reasons that we moved here instead of their is that I work around here.
