We had a leak in our bathroom and the excess water caved in the kitchen ceiling. We didn't like the ceiling and planned to have it replaced but now we have to have it replaced/repaired. It is plaster in a swirly pattern (ugh!) and I would like to get recommendations for ceiling repair/replacement.

The contractor who did my rebuild (and macman's kitchen ceiling) would probably be interested ... and he's good

Can anyone recomend a good carpenter, who can take down a wall for me. It seems people only recommend GC's here.

Not true. I've recommended George the carpenter, and others have recommended other carpenters.

George is at 908-436-0315.

Easy Tom. I said "it seems". Thanks for the recommendation but not the lip.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound snotty.

I've been collecting recommendations here, even for things I probably won't need for a while. If you look around, there's tons of useful advice. The search function makes it easy to find most of it.

Michael:

Jamaine and jerseyfabulous are looking for repair people, not I. But I will keep you in mind.

If you'd like to meet for some other reason, feel free. I'm home most evenings. Just call before you stop by. We're listed on http://www.anywho.com as Carol & Tom Reingold

But I should warn you that I'm not really great.

I am wondering if the carpenters recommended are good at matching the surrounding wood trim stain when making repairs too. Any feedback or experience there? Any specific recommendations on contractors on the subject of staining?

We've come across this many times. The key is to be selective about the wood. It's always a good idea to match the grain pattern and hue to the existing. It wont be 100% but look good.
