Is it normal to have to wait more than two months for a tree service to come out and do the work they agreed to do? I went with Defino's based on MOL recommendations... the price was not the cheapest, but they sounded like they know what they're doing... I accepted their quote in November and I'm still waiting for them to remove 4 pine trees and trim an Ash and Maple I have in the back yard... should I be making a stink about this?

In all fairness, they can't really do it in windy, rainy, snowy weather. It's a dangerous enough job without adding weather conditions. And T-giving on was pretty miserable. Once you hit the holiday week, it's tough to get anyone to do anything that is not an emergency.

OTOH, today is merely cold. I'd think they'd be out there right now.

Bartlett did good work for us, reasonable prices too. They're not just tree trimmers, they're arborists ....

Have you called them to follow up or ask when you'll get scheduled?

I had to follow up with Robert Boettcher (in all fairness it was after that storm the downed many trees), but he came, he was reasonable, and I was happy.

Try Tree King. They were half the price of our next best quote and they were fast and curteous.
"You kids today have it easy. When I was a kid everything was HUGE. My dad was nearly four times bigger than me. You couldn't even see the tops of counters.... Then gradually everything became smaller until it was the manageable size it is today."

I'd like to apologize for making Defino's look like they take too long. They were one of the companies I got a quote from, but I just checked my contract (it has been sitting in my drawer for two months, so I was a little foggy).... the company I agreed to have do the work was NOT Defino's. I am sure they do great work.

The company I selected was Tree King. Makes me all the more confused given the most recent postings. I was going to call them today to ask for a scheduled date, but I think that given the snow, they'd have every right to laugh at me.

I will follow up with them again (this will be the third time) after the snow clears and if I can't get a scheduled, confirmed date, I'll try Defino's again and also give Robert Boettcher a call.

Will keep you posted... really embarrassed about quoting the wrong company.

Glad to hear it and thanks for posting the correction. I was pleased with Defino's and hoping something hadn't changed for the worse since I will have more tree work when the budget allows.

Update-- Tree King called (finally) to let me know they plan on coming out to do the tree removal this week, pending weather. They said they would be at the house tomorrow.

If they do make it out and things go well, I'll repost to let folks know.

It took them two months to get here, but Tree King showed up today and they did a great job. I had 4 pines removed from the side of the house (conveniently located right over the chimney) and they thinned out the canpoies of all the trees in the back yard... something that hasn't been done in at least 15 years. They also removed a dead limb off a huckleberry tree that was hanging over the electric lines along the back of the yard.

I definitely would have preferred them to come out sooner, but I can't fault them for the quality job they did.

(Also had the Dave the Chimney Sweep out today based on a MOL recommendation... we had 16 years' worth of pine needles clogging up all the chimneys, which was causing a draft problem with my furnace. They cleaned them out and told me I did not need a new terra cotta liner. There are a lot of bad sweeps out there... Dave is not one of them. This guy was great.)

What did you do with the pine trees? Or did you have TK just haul them away?

JR- I passed a house this morning on my way to work & Tree King was chopping down very tall pine trees next to the house. I wondered if that was you!

If you were on Wyoming, that was me! I think the place looks loads better. I worked from home today to make sure nothing fell through the roof (heard enough about what ROC went through). We're also in the middle of a kitchen renovation and our 10 ft window went in today, so my wife won't recognize the place when she gets home.
