Can anyone recommend a good local guitar instructor? I started taking lessons in NYC last December, and did so for several months, but had to stop when we moved out here. Now I'm ready to jump back in. I know some basic chords, and can work my way through a few songs from the tabs. Now I'm looking for someone who can work with me over the long haul and help me improve significantly.

My son is taking lessons with an excellent teacher...$50 per hour. He comes to the house. His name is Wayne. If you're interested private line me and I'll dig up his phone number.

Hi,

The guitarist in my son's jazz band takes lessons from a West Orange guitarist named Dave Stryker. He is a professional jazz guitarist who plays around the area. I don't have a number for him, but I'm sure that if you call Cecil's Jazz Club in West Orange, they can give you his number.

From what you are saying, you might be a beginner, and I am not sure if Dave takes beginners. If not, then perhaps the guitarist from one of the local bands like Large Locomotive or the Nightmares can teach you.

My daughter (16) takes private lessons from Frank F -- he lives in Maplewood, charges $30/lesson. He was recommended to us by a friend -- he's been teaching her for about a year -- and she has gotten very very good! PM me for his number

There's a new music studio on Valley Street, Maplewood, between Edgewood and Crowell Places. Next to the pizza place.

I take lessons at the new music studio imacgrandma mentions. It is a good place.
The name is Mark Murphy Music School and the phone number is 973 271-8796. They teach piano, guitar, sax and other stuff as well. Mark has some late'r' evening hours - til 8pm -and I hope he is successful. As an adult taking lessons, I am happy with his style.....
