I am a dog lover, but this one's a no way. I think this effort to improve the pitbull's image will harm the image of the city of New York.

in a related move, Mayor Bloomberg has proposed that henceforth all New Yorkers be referred to as "Pit Bulls."

For most New Yorkers I know, that description is very appropriate.

I was looking at the Jersey Animal Coalition site a while ago and there were a bunch of pit bull looking dogs, which JAC labeled as Stafforshire terriers.

Guess this is pretty universal. Pit Bulls have a bad reputation.

I wonder what happened, I mean, there were WWI ad posters featuring a Pit Bull with flag bandana around it's collar and the RCA Victor dog, the Buster Brown dog as well as Petey from the Little Rascals were all American Pit Bull Terriers.

Where did they go wrong???

Pitbulls do have lockjaw - but it is because bad people buy them and train them to be vicious attack dogs.

I volunteered for the JAC. I remember this dog, I believe it was a pitbull, saved the family we adopted it out to, from a gas leak.

Dalmatians have been given a reputation as destructive and too feisty for kids, too. I have had dalmatians since I was about 7. You know that the year 101 Dalmatians came out, there were about 300 dalmatian puppies abandoned at the NYC pound

I've never owned a pit, but I sure have had dalmatians -- I've been happy with them :-)

But I dunno, we're renaming everything lately. Stupid Freedom Fries.

"Pitbulls do have lockjaw - but it is because bad people buy them and train them to be vicious attack dogs." were supposed to be two separate things. They have lockjaw... and their publicised bad behaviour is a lot because bad people buy them and train them to be vicious attack dogs. -- Haha! Wow, I can't type today.
