Dave: This article seems to be addressing differing characteristics of message boards without placing a value judgment on whether a particular set of characteristics is good or bad for the virtual community as a whole. The number of posters, frequency of posts, and degree to which MOL discussions reflect and spread over into the bricks and mortar world suggests that MOL is doing a lot right. The main weakness remains the inability of some, often vocal, posters to react very strongly and not always politely to those who disagree with their points of view. |
