What kind of paint is best for painting a piece of furniture that's already painted, and what prep should I do? I'm assuming a good wash with Murphy's Oil Soap should be enough...also, does anyone know of a good store nearby where I can browse paint colors for hours (my favorite thing to do!)
Thanks!

I wouldn't use Murphy's Oil Soap, it leaves a residue, which is the last thing you want. I would use a detergent and a good rinse after lightly sanding the piece.

Riccardi's on Springfield Avenue has all the color chips, as does Home Depot. In the past, I didn't like Home Depot's Behr brand paint, but I used it to repaint kitchen cabinets last fall and my experience confirmed the high ratings from Consumer Reports of that brand.
