so if I did want to turn off my water I would know where to do it. I've looked all over the basement and have no idea. Any helpful hints? I have a 1925 Colonial. |

It should be where the water line enters your house from the street. Usually this is on the front of the house near the basement floor as the water line has to be below the frost line. There are exceptions, our water line enters the house from the rear. |

Is the valve bigger than normal, I am thinking maybe I should look behind the hot water heater/furnace. |

Do you know where the water meter is located? It may be directly after that. |

worst case .. follow the cold water pipe AWAY from the hot water heater back until it leaves your house....the main shut-off is the first valve in your home. Richard (ROC) --Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the Titanic.-- --AIM: ROConn |
