So Bush is proposing a vaguely funded initiative to get us the the moon (again) and to Mars. Same week, he wants to grant new rights to illegal immigrants. Isn't it obvious what he has in mind? A human ladder to the moon. They will stand on each other's shoulders. That is one benefit of keeping wages down - you can use human capital in new ways. I can't wait to see what's up there on the moon. Bet a lot has changed. Lets see - I bet there's dust, some golf balls, and a flag with a wire along its top to make it stand up in the thin atmosphere. And a photo op. And Mars, now I hear they have red dust, so that will be cool. What vision. Why don't we let the free enterprise system take over here? Isn't this a classic test of ideology? If Mars is worth going to, let's let IBM go on their own ticket. Let's let industry run a consortium like the one that produced DVD and CD standards. IBM/Boeing/Panasonic/Range Rover can go explore the red planet, and maybe we can use federal money here on earth. |

as Dennis Kucinich said in the debate last night, he is going to the moon to find the WMD that were not in Iraq. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" Wayne Gretzky |

AP Poll: U.S. Tepid on Bush's Space Plans By WILL LESTER The Associated Press Monday, January 12, 2004; 2:50 PM WASHINGTON - President Bush's plan to build a space station on the moon and eventually send astronauts to Mars hasn't grabbed the public's imagination, an Associated Press poll suggests. More than half in the poll said it would be better to spend the money on domestic programs rather than on space research. I agree with the people.
