Latest government and independent studies show that all TUNA and all FARMED SALMON have high levels of mercury and/or PCB's and should not be eaten by pregnant or lactating women and should not be eaten by children. SCOTTISH FARMED SALMON had the highest levels of dioxin like PCB's of all tested. See www.ewg.org for more info on the above and other environmental health matters. |

My doctor told me this, so of course I got paranoid. I'm due in May. Then a friend who's an ICU doc told me you'd have to eat it every day to build up dangerous levels in your body. Also, I went to that web site (thank you) and read the AP article listed. Several experts there also said not to be alarmist. So, we're all left with being confused. I've had tuna maybe twice a month since being pregnant and salmon twice, and I don't feel guilty. Nor do I feel guilty about the exactly two glasses of wine I've had in the past five months. I feel worse about my pitiful lack of exercise and my rocketing increase in ice cream consumption. |

Also, if you drive a car there's a good chance you can get in an accident. You have to keep these risks in perspective, IMHO. |

I guess they warn pregnant and lactating women because they want to be sure they never steered any such women into any danger of any size. This sort of caution is very fashionable. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

alia, Your very right in not worrying about eating tuna a couple of times a month in the past. (More important to take your prenatal vitamins.) Your doctor is also right in warning you to stay away from it for the remainder of your pregnancy. Your ICU doc friend is talking about levels that could give you, the mother, symptoms. This topic is not so hotly debated as others and an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. |

My kid's lucky if I remember to take the prenatal vitamins 3 or four times a week. I'm not sure how the first two came out healthy but they did. |
