Ah, Cato, I remember when I used to be vilified for making similar arguments. Glad to see someone else doing it. One time I said something along the lines of "I'd rather pay an extra dollar for a T-shirt that I knew was made in a factory that treated their employees properly than in some child sweatshop somewhere" and I got my virtual butt handed to me. That was at least a few years ago, though. I think the current roster of "regulars" would be more amenable to that concept. |

You should check out one of those Thule carriers, you may not have to go SUV, they have a TON of storage. |

sportsnut - do you ever go on vacation? With that low mileage on both cars yet, what do you do? (Being sportsnut means that you have an expensive flat tv-screen in every room and there is no need to go on vacation) |

Mr. pub - I have 4 kids and a dog and we travel all over the northeast - to Maine, NH, Vermont, Virginia. And with skis too! We have taken an extra kid with us on occasion and even a babysitter and WE ALL FIT and can still see out the rearview mirror! My kids are big too! Get a big Thule for gear and bags or just one for the bags with seperate rack for skis or bikes or whatever set up works for you. A friend of mine in Connecticut has 5 kids and won't get the Suburban cause it's too darn big for the small roads - the van is zippy in comparison. How much is a Suburban? $40,000 at least? You can get a 2003 Towne & COuntry for $20,000 right now.

Yes, we do go on vacation. Took car service to the airport, flew to Hawaii, took car service home. Actually most of our trips are short drives i.e. Hershey, Vermont, Cape May. We just don't drive that much. My family is only 60 miles away and my wife's family is on the other side of the world. |

Sports - pls don't take me seriously. But two more thoughts Suggest you stay away from vermont during the primary, and The flight to Hawaii, was the equivalent to 36,000 SUV miles. just joking..

I didn't take you seriously. I go to VT for the scenery not the people. I'll ask if they have a hybrid plane to take me to Hawaii in the fall. |

Village Pub - I'd recomment a van over an SUV - we had a grand caravan when our three kids were growing up. It held all of us, and usually one of the kid's friend & tons of camping gear. |

Yeah, I was one of those BU geeks, but I wasn't a computer geek at the time, I was a music geek. I was there from 1978 to 1980, dropped out and hung around Boston until September 1981. I remember one night, the last bus of the night passed me by in Allston, even though I was standing conspicuously at the bus stop. Had to sleep at my friends' place that night. Becareful how much you put on the roof of your mini-van or SUV. A careful reading of the owners manual usually limits the load to 200 pounds or so. Also watch the GVW on a mini-van. The usual carrying capacity is very limited. This can be a real problem with the el cheapo original equiptment tires. must be the weather. I am just full of good news this morning |

Wait a minute, the title says "morons"... I thought he said "Mormons"... I was wondering why he thought we were all Mormons. I'm gonna have to re-read this whole thing... |

I don't know, the phrase "keep on truckin'" never made me think of the Church of LDS. Somehow, I don't think this guy is a Mormon:

I think sportsnut meant "highbird" plane, not hybrid.
